PREPARING FOR WORSHIP

Pastor Trudy's message

Jesus tells us the secret of being great in the kingdom of heaven. But first, he blesses a whole lot of things that may not feel like blessings, certainly not things we would wish to happen. When we pull these things together, the blessings and this image of greatness, we may be surprised, disappointed or confused by what we find. We are wise to approach Jesus' teaching carefully, with open hearts, ears and minds.

Good and gracious God, Your mind is not our mind, and yet, we continue to imagine that we can get a handle on what You may be up to next. Remind us to pay attention to what You are doing right now...in this moment...and to help us to join it. In Jesus' name, Amen.

Tonight

First Responders with Kevin Swanson

7 pm in the Chapel

Did you miss last week's class on funeral planning? If so, you can watch the video recording of that session. Because of technical difficulties we weren't able to record the Q & A session; answers to those questions will be provided at a later date.

We have some very exciting staff anniversaries to celebrate this year! On the weekend of January 21- 22 we'll be celebrating each of these treasured staff members!

Let's shower them with cards! There are baskets in the Narthex to drop off your cards of appreciation. Blank cards will be provided also. Come for worship and Coffee in the Middle on Sunday to celebrate these staff members and their service to our congregation! #generouslifeinChrist

FMSC Mobile Pack Event

North Central College,

Saturday, Feb. 18 & Sunday, Feb. 19

Come to North Central College's ResRec to help pack 1,000,000 meals with other area churches and organizations!

GLC has committed to sending a group of 50 volunteers for the Sunday, Feb. 19, 12:30-2:30 pm pack session. If the GLC pack session doesn't fit your calendar, consider going to one of the other sessions (check the website). FMSC age requirements apply, see fmsc.org for more details.

ALSO! A goal has been set to raise $2,500 as a congregation for FMSC; if this goal is met, it will be fully matched by an anonymous donor and by GLC for a total potential donation of $7,500. Donations may be made by check or cash (please clearly designate "for FMSC mobile pack event") or via Vanco. Contact Julie with questions and to say you'll participate!

SCAM ALERT

Because of the generosity of church folk, all churches have to deal with scammers sending emails and texts that appear to be from your pastor or other church staff using emails and numbers they create. GLC is no exception! Know that no member of church staff will send cryptic pleas for help and then ask you to buy gift cards. Ever. All collections or fund drives will be communicated through the e-newsletter and other official communication channels from the church. If you are ever in doubt about whether a request is really us, just call the church office (630.232.0165) and we'll be happy to clear it up! Thanks for your generosity and alertness!

THANK YOU

Because of your generosity this holiday season, TriCity Family Services' Holiday Adopt-a-Family Program brought joy, hope, and compassion to 86 families in need...may your holidays and start to the new year be filled with much peace, good health, and abundant happiness.
