Make a Lasting Impact Through LMM's Emergency Ward Fund

You don’t have to be a volunteer guardian to make a direct impact.

In many cases, the wards in our care do not have any funds of their own to be able to purchase items that can make a difference in their quality of life. We often find that dementia will prevent a person in our care from knowing what needs they have, so a guardian’s visit allows them to assess and act. Others have basic needs that facilities aren’t able to provide. Because of generous people like you, the guardians are able to quickly purchase items like warm socks or a winter blanket to give comfort.

Our Emergency Ward Fund helps the program provide these basic needs such as clothing, medicine, food, hygiene items, transportation, and other needs that may arise. A guardian is able to quickly access the fund and provide a timely and tangible response.

Shelter Visit from NBA Legend to Oak Out Hunger 🏀

NBA legend and philanthropist, Charles Oakley, is once again giving back to his hometown. Mr. Oakley stops by the Men’s Shelter several times a year as part of his foundation’s Oak Out Hunger initiative. Each visit, he cooks breakfast and lunch from scratch in the shelter kitchen and gets in the serving line to let our residents know that they matter and are deserving.

When he came by earlier this year, he noticed the shelter kitchen staff were having some trouble with the griddle cooktop. We feed hundreds of shelter residents each day, and the food production process was slowed because one side of the cooktop wasn’t getting hot enough. Last week, he gave LMM a call to let us know a brand new commercial kitchen cooktop would be delivered. He was kind enough to stop and fire it up for the first time and cook some turkey burgers for residents.

Power of the People!

Join Lutheran Metropolitan Ministry’s Office of Advocacy for a Power of the People: Understanding Ohio’s Ballot Initiative and Referendum Process lunch and learn on October 24 from 11:30 AM to 1:00 PM. We will gather at LMM’s Richard Sering Center (4515 Superior Ave) to hear from Collin Marozzi, Deputy Policy Director at the ACLU of Ohio and Dr. David Miller, Dean of Academic Affairs from the Mandel School of Applied Social Sciences.

Attendees of the Power of the People: Understanding Ohio’s Ballot Initiative and Referendum Process will leave with a better understanding of what can be advanced through the state or local issue process, how to get an issue on the ballot and a deeper, nonpartisan understanding of what issues are on the ballot this November.
