from the ptsa president
It’s hard to believe, but the first quarter wraps up tomorrow. The start of the school year can be an adjustment for students, but by November, most have settled into a routine and are comfortable with their courses. If your child is struggling in a class, encourage them to seek academic support from their teachers during Saxon time or before or after school. Langley also has a wonderful program of in-school peer tutoring. Teachers and counselors can direct your student to this outstanding resource.

Looking ahead, Wed, Nov 14, 9:30 am is our next PTSA meeting. Student Services will report the FCPS Youth Survey results, and we’ll hear from Principal Greer on the latest at LHS. Mark your calendars and I hope to see you there!

~ Patty Burgess, PTSA President
traffic survey follow-up
Many thanks to LHS parent Catherine Lorenze for keeping the Langley community updated on VDOT's proposed plan to close the northbound I-495 ramp at Georgetown Pike during peak hours.  Lorenze worked with VDOT and the PTSA to develop surveys so that both Langley staff and parents could provide their input on the proposal.

The results of our surveys were shared with VDOT and county officials and picked up by local media. Check out the Sun Gazette article here.

Some people know early on what they want to grow up to be: a doctor, a police officer or an educator. LHS history teacher Christina Banker says, “ I always wanted to be a teacher. I had one major, education, in college, and I’ve had one profession!”

Banker graduated from Chantilly HS, where her teachers “awakened my passion for history, ” Banker said. She received her BA at Brigham Young University and her MA at St. Johns College. Before coming to Langley, Banker taught at Madison HS.

Banker teaches World History at the general, honors and AP level. She wants students to “ learn to think for themselves ” and loves helping to “ lead them along a path to draw their own conclusions .”

Banker's ideal student field trip would be to a place of historical importance. “It would be great to go to Jerusalem , Istanbul , or another crossroads of civilization, Rome .”

In her free time, Banker enjoys listening to hip-hop and R&B , watching historical movies and spending time and dining with friends.
good luck, teams!
