Interview Katie Getman with Getman Design

A quality interior designer provides more than a technical eye for color, they provide artistry that smoothly blends your personality into a pleasing and sometimes life-changing environment. Katie Getman is that artist! Based in the Spokane area, Katie’s designs have improved both small and large projects. Creating artistic environments within a budget may be challenging for many but Katie somehow manages to continually impress. One of the greatest joys Katie finds in life is experiencing the joy and satisfaction of her clients for a job well done. She started her business 4 years ago to fill a niche of enhancing the lives of her clients through blending personalization with form, function, design, and beauty.
Katie’s professional advice is most often sought by those seeking to invest in themselves, and their quality of life, by investing in their home. Her clientele ranges from business professionals to retirees and families who are looking for better functionality and design that fits their active personality and lifestyle. An interesting demographic she also has found success for are bachelors who want their space to work for them, but don't know how or what to do.
It is no surprise that 2020 was a challenging year for many. Katie used the COVID-19 shutdown as a time for reflection, education, and personal growth; a foundation that has been a major influence for her extraordinary business in 2021. With societal restrictions easing, Katie has found enormous value in building relationships with individuals and businesses alike. Learning the “why” that drives a person and/or business is a pleasure that Katie has found through intentional conversations with business peers, architects, complimentary business relationships, friends, acquaintances, and business peers. Being a positive influence for others to experience and live their dreams through beautiful and functional environments is more than a job…it’s a passion for Katie.
As a business owner, one will face challenges. The key to overcoming challenges is not in being perfect but in learning, adapting, and persevering. Katie shares that her largest mistake in developing a successful business was allowing fear and conformity to rule her life. She would watch others to learn but was afraid to implement it into her business model for fear of making a mistake and being judged for the mistake instead of her talent. Katie shared "We are living in an environment that is rapidly evolving, and I'm sorry to tell you this, but there is no way to "know it all" before you get out there. Stop being afraid of making a mistake - in general - and get out there to learn some hard lessons. You WILL be okay!"
We asked Katie what is inspiring her: "Service to others after a year of having very little contact with people. If you are out there volunteering your time to people in need - you inspire me! I'm inspired by those showing up in a real way about how our environments are changing and impacting us, learning to tell a story instead of having a "perfect" thread! We need to value one another more than what we can do to "perform" or look perfect."
