Useful Business Thought of the Week - What is Your Why
Quote of the week:
"Don't let people tell you your ideas won't work. If you're passionate about an idea that's stuck in your head, find a way to build it so you can prove to yourself that it doesn't work."

Interviews
Interview Troy Parker with Sir Speedy

Sir Speedy has been in business for 35 years and does print signs and marketing. Everything from commercial printing, copying, and usually catering towards small to medium-sized companies. They also do print marketing – postcards, print mailings, etc. Signs have been the fastest-growing part of their company over the past 2 years.
When asked about their target market Troy shared "In all reality, for 35 years there has not been a key demographic. One of my biggest customers does scrapbook papers, but overall the hospitality and basic business services have been the bread and butter."
The pandemic had a large impact on the hospitality industry.
It was devastating and overnight took 40% of their businesses away. They were exempt from shutting down because we also work with the medical industry and pick up some business during the shutdown because other printing companies had to shut down.
It is important to take action in your business. Sir Speedy did this by reaching out to businesses that have worked with them in the past to offer free banners, menus, and other such things they might need.
They also stopped everything, looked at budgets, saved as much money as possible, and changed their culture a bit in order to treat others to let them know that they would help.
All businesses face challenges and many will end up learning something. Troy shared "You have to always be looking at trends, where the industry is going, and stay a step ahead of the curve. That’s the balancing act. In the 90’s we had great accounts and quit marketing, then lost about 60% of our business because those accounts were bought out. Always look for growth strategies, always find new customers and keep good relations with your current customers."
What's inspiring Troy: "I am inspired by the enthusiasm from people in the Spokane Valley and Spokane area, the desires for small businesses to succeed, entrepreneurial attitude. So many have been beat down and they have been resilient – there is hope!"

Interview Nerea Keesee with Nerea Acupuncture & Eastern Medicine

Nerea owns an acupuncture holistic clinic in Spokane. She is a Licensed Acupuncturist in Colorado, Idaho, and Washington with a Master of Science in Traditional Chinese Medicine. Additionally, she is NCCAOM certified, National board certification in Traditional Chinese Medicine.
Nerea's target audience is usually individuals with chronic pain, digestive issues, stroke patients, or ones wanting to get away from pain meds. If you are looking for a holistic approach to your unwanted pain then Nerea is the one for you!
During the pandemic, many started to neglect their overall health. Especially with the isolation, mental health cases started to rise. This caused many more of her clients to need extra help.
It is important to take action in your business. Nerea did this by helping people focus more on proactive health. Also by reminding clients that they need to live their life well - not in fear.
We all learn from challenges in our business. Nerea shares that it's important to trust your gut. "If something feels wrong don't talk yourself into it!". Nerea shared that it was the biggest lesson of her life.
What is inspiring Nerea: "The People in my life, my dog (Kitty), and being healthy".

A Book recommendation from your Coach:
Start with Why
Sinek starts with a fundamental question: Why are some people and organizations more innovative, more influential, and more profitable than others? Why do some command greater loyalty from customers and employees alike? Even among the successful, why are so few able to repeat their success over and over?
People like Martin Luther King Jr., Steve Jobs, and the Wright Brothers had little in common, but they all started with WHY. They realized that people won't truly buy into a product, service, movement, or idea until they understand the WHY behind it.
