SBCTA Coordinating with Neighboring Agencies to Expand Energy Efficiency Opportunities Regional Energy Networks are becoming an option for local governments to continue providing their communities energy efficiency support. This month, the Board of Directors authorized staff to pursue the development of a Regional Energy Network in coordination with the Coachella Valley Association of Governments and the Western Riverside Council of Governments in an effort to expand these efficiency efforts.   Read More SBCTA Identifies Projects for upcoming Regional Transportation Plan/Sustainable Communities Strategy SBCTA currently collaborates with the Southern California Association of Governments (SCAG) on a broad range of transportation and sustainability initiatives. As part of these collaborative efforts, SBCTA was directly involved in the development of the 2016-2040 Regional Transportation Plan/Sustainable Communities Strategy (RTP/SCS). While SCAG develops the RTP/SCS, the land use and transportation changes within it are largely driven by the respective actions of local governments, transit agencies, Caltrans, and County Transportation Commissions. Landscaping Project Planned for Interstate 215 between San Bernardino and Riverside In June 2015, new High Occupancy Vehicle (HOV) lanes constructed as part of the I-215 Bi-County Project were opened to the public. As a follow up to that project, a landscaping improvement project has been planned. The I-215 Bi-County Landscape project proposes drought tolerant, low maintenance highway planting, the addition of irrigation infrastructure with smart technology, and construction of hardscape beginning at the I-215 Orange Show Road Interchange in San Bernardino and ending at the San Bernardino/Riverside County line which is just south of the I-215 Iowa Avenue/La Cadena Drive Interchange in the City of Colton. Read More Freeway Service Patrol Tow Services Contracts Awarded The Board of Directors has awarded new contracts with Royal Coaches Towing to service highways in San Bernardino County for the Freeway Service Patrol (FSP) Program. Royal Coaches Towing was awarded a total of $3.7 million for a 5-year term to cover Beat No. 10 which covers Interstate 10 from Haven Avenue to Sierra Avenue and Beat No. 23 which covers Interstate 15 from Jurupa Street to Sierra Avenue. As the SBCTA Board convened for their first meeting of 2019, one of the orders of business was addressing the annual appointment or renewal of appointment to SBCTA policy committees and SBCTA representation on outside agencies. Members of the SBCTA policy committees provide policy oversight and guidance to staff on a variety of issues and programs, as well as recommendations to the SBCTA Board of Directors on projects, administrative issues, policies, budget, finance and organizational issues.
