Commuters in the eastern San Bernardino Valley can look forward to some traffic relief on the horizon. On November 6th, the SBCTA Board of Directors approved the construction contract for the State Route 210 (SR-210) lane addition and Base Line interchange project. The contract was awarded to Guy F. Atkinson Construction, LLP for just over $112 million.

Currently, SR-210 reduces from three lanes in each direction to two lanes in between Highland Avenue in the City of San Bernardino to San Bernardino Avenue in the City of Redlands, creating a bottleneck for commuters in that stretch. The project will add one mixed-flow lane in each direction between Highland Avenue and San Bernardino Avenue, auxiliary lanes between Base Line and 5th Streets, and an acceleration lane at the 5th Street eastbound ramp.
SBCTA has launched an updated version of the agency website, goSBCTA.com. The new site features cleaner, engaging, and more intuitive website navigation for the latest project updates, Board Meeting information, commuter options in San Bernardino County, transportation planning documents, spending forecasts, and more.

Focusing on providing a positive user experience to the community of visitors of the page, an emphasis was put on mobile capability, well-formatted content and consistency across the various internal pages within its domain. In addition, the site has been structured to enhance accessibility for all users, including those using adaptive devices.
San Bernardino Council of Governments (SBCOG) presented the San Bernardino Countywide Zero Emission Vehicle Readiness and Implementation Plan at this month’s Board of Directors meeting. The plan, funded through a grant awarded to SBCOG from the California Energy Commission (CEC), was based on Governor Brown’s Executive order to support benchmarks to bring 1.5 million zero emission vehicles (ZEVs) to California’s roads. In addition, it ensures that Californians have easy access to ZEV infrastructure to charge the vehicles by 2025, enhancing the commitment to the adoption of five million ZEVs on the road by 2030.
On October 29th, SBCTA hosted their 7th annual Business 2 Business (B2B) Expo at the Ontario Convention Center. The B2B Expo is an outreach opportunity for the contracting community of Southern California. The expo connects prime and subcontractors, enhances awareness of local labor, and educates prospective bidders on what makes for an effective proposal.
At the November SBCTA Board of Directors meeting, Executive Director Dr. Ray Wolfe outlined plans to provide increased service frequency along the Metrolink San Bernardino Line between the cities of Rancho Cucamonga and Pomona. It was shown that by using the same type of hybrid-rail trains that will be used on the Redlands Passenger Rail Project, the more efficient trains can run 30-minute bi-directional service between Rancho Cucamonga and Pomona.

Los Angeles County Metro’s Gold Line light rail system was initially planned to extend to the transit center in the City of Montclair. Due to increased development and construction costs, the current Gold Line extension is currently slated to terminate in Pomona. The current contract has a $550 million estimate to extend that service from Pomona to Montclair. That contract requires the extension to be funded within two years to honor that price. The extension is currently unfunded.
