SBCTA Approves Sale of Property for Development of Brightline West Transit Station at Cucamonga Station

The SBCTA Board of Directors passed another milestone in the effort to bring a high speed rail connection, from Las Vegas and the High Desert, to the San Bernardino Valley.


The Board, along with the Rancho Cucamonga City Council, approved the sale of a five-acre portion of the jointly owned property at Cucamonga Station to Brightline West.

SBCTA and Stadler Unveil 1st ZEMU Hydrogen-Powered Train

SBCTA and Stadler unveiled what will become North America’s first hydrogen-power train – the FLIRT H2. Coming to the Arrow line as part of the Redlands Passenger Rail System in 2024, the FLIRT H2 was showcased at InnoTrans conference in Berlin last month.


The zero-emission multiple unit (ZEMU) is equipped with a power pack that uses modular fuel cells and batteries that can be tailored to the requirements of different operational areas. It will replace Stadler’s FLIRT diesel-multiple unit (DMU), which will debut as part of the Arrow line service later this year.

Why All of the Train Horns? 

Arrow is close to revenue service and crews are in the final stages of train testing, crew training, and simulated service. Throughout testing, in compliance with FRA regulations, crews need to sound the horns (two long, one short, one long) and bells at street crossings throughout the corridor. Please know this is temporary and not permanent.

Last month, SBCTA hosted its annual Business to Business (B2B) Expo and State of Transportation. The event connected firms for future teaming opportunities, enhanced awareness of local labor, and educated prospective bidders on upcoming contracting opportunities. This year’s Expo showcased 60 owner and employer booths including Caltrans District 8, Metrolink, Omnitrans, Ontario International Airport, and Riverside County Transportation Commission.
