Dear Friends,
The NYSED announced on Friday that it will publish proposed new Regulations on July 3rd and will hold a public comment period through September 2nd. The final Regulations are then expected to come before the Board of Regents in fall 2019.
The Agudah looks forward to reviewing the draft NYSED Regulations, and toward working with NYSED and the Board of Regents to ensure that we improve education, while scrupulously respecting the autonomy and unique missions of diverse nonpublic schools statewide.
Rabbi Yeruchim Silber, The Agudah's Director of NY Government Relations, was in Albany today to attend the meeting of the Board of Regents, the body that oversees the SED. After the meeting he commented, "The next few months promise to be ones of intense advocacy and lobbying efforts as we try to influence the makeup of the new rules. We don’t yet know how this will turn out, but I can tell you that The Agudah will be here in Albany or wherever else we may be needed, fighting to ensure that our rights are protected.”
The grassroots effort from the last campaign made a tremendous impression on the elected officials and members of the Board of Regents. Over the next few weeks and months we will update you and look forward to working with you in our efforts to protect the autonomy of our schools.
Thank you and all the best,
