not about the bike
how did we not know?

My friend, Sherri, and I were chatting last weekend at the farmer's market, and the conversation morphed into biking the nearby North Central Railroad (NCR) Trail as we set up a bike date. She mentioned eating lunch at a
healthy cafe
along the trail at the historic Monkton hotel along the trail; we agreed how delicious it is.
"How did I not know it was there?" she said.
Then I mentioned I hadn't known about a local nursery & garden center,
Kingsdene
, several miles up York Road. I've been living here in Sparks what, only for 23 years, and had never stopped in. Now I'm hooked on its
fantastic indoor/outdoor gift shop
with cool stuff, which is now my 'go to' place when I need a gift or garden stuff. (Plus, it's satisfying to support the small local mom & pop businesses vs. large retailers.)
How did I not know such a cool shop existed just up the road?
And one more ... my neighbor, Maria, and I have been hanging around together. Although I've known her awhile, we saw each other only at the health club, never in our neighborhood. Now we walk our dogs, do yoga, and hang on my deck, sometimes with a glass of vino. I just adore Maria! She's easy-going, easy to talk with, she's first-generation Italian, and we have a bunch in common.
How did I not know such a cool person on the next street was a potential new friendship?
Who and what is around you, snippeteers, that you may have overlooked, driven past, never tried, ignored, haven't taken time for, or didn't know it went deeper? Go discover it, she, he, or them ... you may be pleasantly surprised and delighted. You might soon be thinking,
"How did I not know that was there?"

I also have a househusband. It would be nice to have a handyman, but Sean makes a good living and never complains when I have to pay someone to fix something. He helps with stuff around here: feeding animals, cutting grass, cleaning up after dinner. I don’t usually thank him - we are a team. He feeds donkeys, I feed chickens. He feeds cats, I feed dogs. I pick up slack if he leaves early in the morning and I'll do the afternoon feeding if he’s not around. I’ve started doing the weed whacking since I stopped working and I take out the trash now sometimes. I do thank him when he cleans up dinner. I feel like I should do that since I don’t work anymore. He’s a pretty easy guy to live with. Just do what you have to do. If a little 'thank you' puts a smile on Ken’s face and makes life easier, why not?"

So funny about the 'thank you' issue. I know of someone who lives for that praise phrase. They even posted on social media the issue with someone who couldn’t even give a simple 'thank you' for a deed done. I struggle thanking this individual. My take on 'thank you' is simply this: if I am doing it for the right reason (in God’s eyes), I will wait until I stand before God in all His glory to receive whatever praise He feels necessary. No human thanks needed. Yet, I do give thanks to anything big or small where I feel it is appropriate. And like you, I do say 'thanks' to my husband for things he does around the house; and yes, some are things he should be doing anyway. But I am still very grateful for what he does take on. And I am guilty of thinking, 'Wait, he should be doing that anyway.' Oh well. Thanks for the 'thank you' reminder!!!"

“I shall pass this way but once;
any good that I can do
or any kindness I can show
to any human being;
let me do it now.
Let me not defer nor neglect it,
for I shall not pass this way again.”
