SERVING OTHERS

TIME TO PLAN FOR THE GARDEN

Have you ever wanted to adopt your own spot in the church garden or learn how you can help with the general areas? Well, your chance to learn about everything related to our garden is here! Come join Mike Smith as he leads the planning for the garden in 2025 and takes applications for those special garden spots. The meeting is Wednesday, March 19 at 7:15 pm in Rm 145 (across from the Worship Center).

HELP MAKE SOUP MIX

On Sunday, March 16, there won't be any children or student activities during the Sunday School hour. While many will be out of town during spring break, there will still be some here. So, we've decided it would be a good time to make our Five Bean Soup mix to give to area food pantries. Come join us at 10 am in the gym... families, individuals and all ages welcome!

OUR GIVING MADE A DIFFERENCE

When Hurricane Helene hit at the end of September, we knew the need would be great. Our church's response in making donations of items and money, delivering items, and working at distribution centers and homes was phenomenal. One of the distribution/relief centers we sent items to was in Swannanoa, North Carolina, near Asheville. We were made aware of them through Concord United member Pete Lloyd whose brother lives close to the center. They let us know of specific items they were in need of and we supplied two truckloads from your donations and items we got from our thrift store. Click HERE to read the letter of appreciation we received from them this week. We really did make a difference in many lives!

SHEPHERD OF HOPE FOOD PANTRY

The Pantry is open on the 1st Monday from 3:00 – 5:00 pm and the 3rd Monday from 3:00 – 6:00 pm at Faith Lutheran Church, 225 Jamestowne Blvd. Anyone needing food is welcome to drive through starting in the West driveway. Food items requested for March: Baking mix (Bisquick), boxed mashed potato flakes, jelly (no glass jars), granola bars and toothpaste

THANK YOU FOR YOUR GENEROUS SUPPORT OF SOUPER BOWL OF CARING 2025

The United Methodist Men are grateful for the generosity of the congregation in this year’s Souper Bowl of Caring collection. You donated a record $3898 to bring our 19-year total to $39,261. This money will be distributed evenly to four organizations that feed the hungry: Wesley House Community Center Pantry, Society of St Andrew, the Love Kitchen, and Mobile Meals.

FASTING & PRAYER

As we journey from Ash Wednesday to the cross and the empty tomb, we encourage fasting. Just as Welsey instilled in the first Methodists, we invite you to fast on Fridays, March 7, March 14, March 21, March 28, April 4, April 11 and April 18. It is a Christian tradition to fast on Friday, as it represents the day Jesus was crucified and sacrificed for us.

We recommend one of the three options for fasting weekly during Lent:

  • Fridays from 9am-3pm (The hours of the crucifixion.)
  • Fridays until 3pm
  • Fridays until Sundown

As mentioned, fasting means abstaining. Abstaining from food is one method of fasting. We can also fast from other items, such as screens and social media.
