Global leadership in improving human performance & effectiveness in healthcare
In July, iEXCEL received a five-year accreditation status from the American College of Surgeons (ACS) as a Comprehensive Accredited Education Institute (AEI). This prestigious recognition designates iEXCEL in the Davis Global Center as one of 90 globally accredited interprofessional simulation centers. Kudos to Dr. Chandra Are, Ben Stobbe, Ashlee Duffy and Jenni Bouckhuyt who were instrumental in leading this initiative.

"UNMC iEXCEL's new and rare designation as the Accredited Education Institute by the American College of Surgeons is yet one more reflection of our culture of excellence. The award highlights those critical elements: partnerships across the institution, innovation, our people and leadership." - Ali Khan, MD, MPH, Dean, College of Public Health

July Highlights
Visualization: Exploring Inside the Cell!
In collaboration with Dr. Peter Angeletti of the Nebraska Center for Virology at the University of Nebraska–Lincoln, the iEXCEL Visualization team created a 3D virtual reality model that illustrates the impact of COVID–19 at the cellular level.
Hands-On Leads to Preparedness
Before entering their clinical rotations, first-year Family Medicine residents engaged in hands-on multidisciplinary training to to learn how to effectively manage obstetric emergencies. Dr. Jeremy King led the Advanced Life Support in Obstetrics (ALSO) course using lifelike task trainers and human patient simulators in the Davis Global Center to reinforce and practice concepts learned in the classroom.
Rotating Stations = Maximum Efficiency
The iEXCEL team provided advanced simulation training for first-year General Surgery residents who spent the full day rotating through 10+ different procedural skills stations. Led by Dr. Samuel Cemaj and Dr. Tiffany Tanner, residents practiced central lines, intubation, chest tubes, thoracentesis, cricothyrotomy and other clinical procedures.
