IMPORTANT TRAVEL INFORMATION

As Spring Break approaches, we understand that many students are planning to take personal-related trips. We encourage our students to refrain from non-essential travel. If you are considering travel, be sure to check the latest CDC travel advisories, which currently recommend avoiding nonessential travel to China, South Korea, Italy and Iran. Also keep in mind that the situation is fluid and other countries can always add or change travel restrictions, flights may be canceled, and new re-entry restrictions or quarantines could be imposed. Please be sure to provide family and friends with your itinerary and contact information before you travel.

If you choose to travel internationally, make sure you have all the required documentation for travel and re-entry into the U.S., including a valid travel signature on your I-20 (F-1 Students) or DS-2019 (J-1 Students). A travel signature is valid for one year from the date of last signature (6 months for F-1 OPT students). If your travel signature will be expired at the time of your re-entry into the U.S., you need to renew it before you leave the U.S.
CHECK YOUR PROGRAM END DATE ON YOUR I-20 OR DS-2019

Always be mindful of your current program end date listed on your Form I-20 and DS-2019. If you need more time to complete the academic program, you must apply for an extension in iPortal PRIOR to the end date listed. Failure to extend your I-20 or DS-2019 in a timely manner may cause immigration issues so please act accordingly!

If your I-20 or DS-2019 has already expired, please see an International Student Advisor as soon as possible as immediate action may be required.
AVOID TUITION SCAMS
There has been an increase in online scams which target university students by promising reduction in tuition if a third-party service is used to pay their fees. International students have been targeted more frequently, and scammer have especially targeted student using the popular app, WeChat. Scammers often promise an approximate 5% discount in tuition and victims are asked to provide their university credentials and their credit card information.

The best way to protect yourself from these scams is to never share your online credentials with anyone. You should also only use payment methods approved by UC San Diego, and advise parents and authorized payers not to respond to 3rd-party solicitations.
