iTRACE UNIVERSITY
THE ONLINE LEARNING PROGRAM FROM TRACEY TECHNOLOGIES
Greetings!

Welcome back to iTrace U, and today we offer a video from Ray Sievert that reinforces a topic mentioned in other iTrace U sessions: a patient's corneal aberrations being compensated by the lens. Ray presents a post refractive case and discusses why it’s essential to have this information before any additional surgery is planned. You were aware of astigmatism compensation (lenticular astigmatism offsets corneal astigmatism), but did you know about this HOA compensation?

THINGS TO LOOK FOR IN THIS TEACHING:
The variation from one eye to the other shows the importance of careful and robust pre-op screening with an iTrace to understand this optical phenomena called Lens Compensation.

THINGS TO CONSIDER WHILE YOU ARE WATCHING:
  • How may post refractive patients present for cataract surgery vs MORE refractive surgery? Has their LASIK worn off or is it the lens aging process?
  • Does the DLI screen help to explain to the patient the location of the vision problem?
  • Do you have occasional patients who after cataract removal of an obvious opacity complain of vision quality is WORSE than before?
  • Is Lens Compensation something you stay aware of and look for, or is it a bit of a surprise to you?

THINGS TO CONSIDER STUDYING IN YOUR PRACTICE:
  • How many of your post refractive patients have some degree of lens compensation?
