iTRACE UNIVERSITY
THE ONLINE LEARNING PROGRAM FROM TRACEY TECHNOLOGIES
Greetings!
I
Welcome to today's iTrace U which introduc es the idea of optimizing presbyopic treatment targets by analyzing patients' Depth of Focus with the iTrace. Ray Sievert walks through a case in the Depth of Focus Comparison screen (available in iTrace 6.1 software and later) to illustrate the concept.

THINGS TO LOOK FOR IN THIS TEACHING:
The Depth of Focus capability of the iTrace is very interesting but a bit hidden from view. You have to go look for it in the Settings screen of your iTrace. Look at the curves and try to learn about the peak (VSOTF) and the width of these curves. Although it appears a bit complex optically, it’s really just getting to look at a number of your patients before you start to see things that correlate to their useable vision.

THINGS TO CONSIDER WHILE YOU ARE WATCHING:
  • What do you think about when post-op patients seem to have a range of vision correction that allows them to be able to see well with different prescriptions?
  • How does one lens perform better with reading than it should?
  • Why does a diffractive multifocal and a depth of focus lens perform differently?
  • After you implant one type of lens, how do you know which lens to select for the second eye?
  • Do you change the second lens based on patient feedback?
  • Do you wait for neuro-adaption or do you prefer to do the second eye sooner?

THINGS TO CONSIDER STUDYING IN YOUR PRACTICE:
Look at your post-op patients with various types of lenses.
  • Which types of lenses give the best DOF?
  • The best VSOTF?
  • Which metric best matches the patient experience?
  • Does this information change your thinking on when to use different lenses?
