iTRACE UNIVERSITY
THE ONLINE LEARNING PROGRAM FROM TRACEY TECHNOLOGIES
Greetings!
I
We shift gears today to the very popular DLI Display. Introduced initially in the iTrace 6.0 software, the display is multi-faceted. In this short video Ray Sievert explains the details of the display beyond the DLI number, showing users how they can screen multi-focal candidates and help to educate patients on the value of toric IOLs. This simple display revolutionizes toric lens conversion by making it very simple to show the patient the benefit of a toric lens with visual simulation.

THINGS TO LOOK FOR IN THIS TEACHING:
The DLI screen is extremely efficient in explaining to your patient the visual problems they have and where those problems originate. You will convert many more toric lenses quickly and effectively by having this data in the lane with the patient as you meet with them. Just show them the standard lens, then show them the effect of correcting their corneal astigmatism (with a toric lens / LRI or whatever you choose). The DLI is an objective measure of optical quality from the patient’s perspective. You can finally empathize with them, connect with them and quickly show them the benefit of your suggested procedure.

THINGS TO CONSIDER WHILE YOU ARE WATCHING:
Are you aware of the sea change in cataract surgery? Looking for Opacity is NOT the same as understanding a patient’s visual complaints. Often in early cataracts, the opacity and the symptoms don’t match. The theory is that early cataracts cause High Order Aberrations BEFORE they cause Opacities. If this is true, you need to understand the optical performance of the patient’s Cornea and Lens before operating on either. This is especially true of post-refractive patients. Consider making changes to your practice by integrating iTrace data in all your lanes and using the DLI to convert more toric patients.

THINGS TO CONSIDER STUDYING IN YOUR PRACTICE:
Patient satisfaction with the timing of cataract surgery as well as their results are explained by understanding and using the DLI. A recent study shows that the DLI increases for up to 6 weeks after surgery, maybe longer. Are you studying your patient satisfaction with surveys? Add in the DLI increase from pre-op to post-op. It will match their satisfaction !
