Greetings!
I
Why did Dr. Robert Osher compare the DLI to a pregnancy test? Well it makes sense when you think of cataracts needing an accurate and early diagnostic like people use for pregnancy. A doctor sees the aging lens with lots of opacity and it is an obvious cataract but sometimes vision problems should be fixed BEFORE you observe opacity. Watch the quick 7 minute
video
as he discusses the DLI, how he wouldn’t trade his iTrace for anything, and that he won’t see a cataract patient without first looking at his iTrace data.
THINGS TO LOOK FOR IN THIS TEACHING:
- An inserted award winning video looking at aberrations as the cause of visual complaints when the lens is still clear.
- The confidence Dr. Osher has in the overall iTrace, including the K readings, the Toric Check, and especially the DLI.
THINGS TO CONSIDER WHILE YOU ARE WATCHING:
- Do you use the iTrace to enhance your patient rapport?
- Are you using data to drive your discussions of therapeutic decisions?
- Is your discussion also based on visually simple data so your patients can follow it?
- Do you use data to explain to patients their need for a toric lens?
THINGS TO CONSIDER STUDYING IN YOUR PRACTICE:
- Vision complaints and how they relate to the DLI.
- What is the average DLI of your pre-op patients.
- Does the post-op satisfaction correlate well with the INCREASE in DLI that the patient gets after the surgery?
