iTRACE UNIVERSITY
THE ONLINE LEARNING PROGRAM FROM TRACEY TECHNOLOGIES
Greetings!

Post-op mysteries may seem difficult to solve at times, but with the iTrace you have a tool that can unravel and address post-op issues quickly for you. In today's iTrace U session, Ray Sievert explains how to use the iTrace to illustrate the effect of PCO on the patient's vision and how the iTrace can help you determine when a YAG is in order.

THINGS TO LOOK FOR IN THIS TEACHING:
  • The opacity grade gives you some information about observable opacification, and if that occurs post-op, its usually the capsule.
  • The DLI going down dramatically after what was a successful surgery gives you some information on the quality of vision the patient has even if their capsule is clear.
  • The takeaway is that using this display on post-op patients helps you sort out what you should do about a YAG capsulotomy.

THINGS TO CONSIDER WHILE YOU ARE WATCHING:
Are you taking post-op iTrace scans on all your patients? Why not? If they are happy after surgery, but unhappy later, having this immediate post-op scan (to now compare with) will offer you instant insight into what has changed. This efficiency in location and severity of the problem is very efficient and quite reassuring to your patient.

THINGS TO CONSIDER STUDYING IN YOUR PRACTICE:
Study the Opacity Grade of all pre-op YAG patients to compare with follow up visits. You can document the vision improvement in their DLI and their Referaction. It will also tell you something about what your average Opacity number is when decide to YAG the capsule.
