iTRACE UNIVERSITY
THE ONLINE LEARNING PROGRAM FROM TRACEY TECHNOLOGIES
Greetings!

For some time, the iTrace was considered by many to be a "just a research" device. This rumor became prevalent because almost all research into presbyopic treatments in the United States used the iTrace, at the request of the FDA. Ray explains in today's  session on using the iTrace to measure accommodation. What can a refractive cataract surgeon learn from this? The targeting of IOL lens power is critical, and how lenses work in the eye is something you can consider when targeting the fellow eye, or choosing to mix and match lenses.

THINGS TO LOOK FOR IN THIS TEACHING:
  • Almost every ophthalmic company from A to Z uses the iTrace in their internal studies to know what is happening optically from various types of corrections, especially in the area of presbyopic treatment options.
  • Did you know that the accommodation measurement is available to you with an iTrace?
  • Did you know that measuring through the open window on the operator side of the iTrace can eliminate instrument myopia and improve refractions in young patients?

THINGS TO CONSIDER WHILE YOU ARE WATCHING:
  • What are you changing optically when you offer a patient a presbyopic correction treatment?
  • Do you want to know what the real effect of your surgery is?
  • When offering a number of presbyopic treatments to your patients, what do you use to establish which is the best choice for each patient? Is it subjective or objective?

THINGS TO CONSIDER STUDYING IN YOUR PRACTICE:
Take some far and near measurements of younger patients and compare them to each other to learn each patient’s method and volume of accommodation. It may surprise you when you see not all patients accomplish this in the same way.
