iTRACE UNIVERSITY
THE ONLINE LEARNING PROGRAM FROM TRACEY TECHNOLOGIES
Greetings!

Welcome to iTrace University. Today’s session is a video with Francis Price, M.D. where he describes how he manages post-op toric rotations. Several past iTrace U sessions have covered this topic, and here Dr. Price explains very succinctly how the iTrace helps him quickly and accurately resolve toric rotation problems.

THINGS TO LOOK FOR IN THIS TEACHING:
  • The simple way to review the POST-OP cornea versus the lens you implanted.
  • Note that Dr. Price mentions that many of the post-refractive corneas change a lot from pre-op, meaning that your best plans may go awry.
  • Recommended NOT to use BSS (uses viscoelastic on referral patients) when rotating.
  • One to two weeks wait until you rotate.

THINGS TO CONSIDER WHILE YOU ARE WATCHING:
  • What steps do you take when you are rotating a lens?
  • Do you measure ALL post-op toric lenses, or do you let the patient satisfaction drive your decisions?
  • Do you review the lens power from the Toric Check (lower left box shows lens power in the eye) relative to the lens you implanted.
  • Do you always get the power you put in?
  • Are your calculations correct?
  • Do you always get the lens where you wanted to put it?

THINGS TO CONSIDER STUDYING IN YOUR PRACTICE:
  • The implanted power of all toric Lenses versus the Manufacturer’s listed power (at the corneal plane).
  • The average stability of various torics over the first month in the eye.
  • The average corneal power pre- and post-op on With-the-Rule and also Against-the-Rule corneas.
