iTRACE UNIVERSITY
THE ONLINE LEARNING PROGRAM FROM TRACEY TECHNOLOGIES
Greetings!

The iTrace can help to screen your Toric Lens candidates to ensure improved outcomes. In today’s session of iTrace University, Ray Sievert presents using Angle Alpha as an indicator of success in Toric Lens surgery. It's a concept that isn't widely used or understood, and could help explain why there are patients who do not do well after Toric Lens surgery even when your power and axis of placement are perfect.

THINGS TO LOOK FOR IN THIS TEACHING:
You can use Angle Alpha for screening toric patients depending on their axis. Although Toric lenses generally are well tolerated and patient satisfaction is high, for some patients it would be better to correct the astigmatism on the cornea with a different treatment plan (LRI, PRK, etc).

THINGS TO CONSIDER WHILE YOU ARE WATCHING:
Are you conscious of the oblique and against the rule torics requiring more scrutiny of their optical alignment?
What are your preferred ways to correct corneal astigmatism if you choose not to implant a toric lens?

THINGS TO CONSIDER STUDYING IN YOUR PRACTICE:
Compare your pre-op topography to your post-op one month out by reviewing 10 with the rule patients and 10 against the rule. See how your SIA might change based on the pre-op axis.
