We need underclassman parents! The Ethics Day Committee needs your help to facilitate an all-day program on Wed, Mar 16, 8:15 am – 2:30 pm at McLean Bible Church for almost 500 seniors! If you are a parent of an underclassman, please consider volunteering for this rewarding event (friends and neighbors welcome!), no experience needed.
Ethics Day encourages seniors to determine their own ethical framework and equips them with decision-making tools they can use in life after high school when confronting ethical dilemmas. Speakers present situations in three different modules and the volunteers encourage dialogue among the seniors in small-group table discussions.

Artwork should answer any (or all) of these questions:

hockey: 2022 NVSHL Virginia State Champions! Congratulations to the Langley Varsity Ice Hockey team for a dramatic 2-1 victory over Briar Woods last Friday to win the state championship title. Playing in front of a packed crowd at Ashburn, the Falcons scored their one and only goal in the first period. Kam Khazai tied the game for Langley on a power play in the second period. The game remained tied throughout the third period until Noah Scheinerman took advantage of another Langley power play and scored the game-winning goal with 6 minutes left. Langley goalie Harrison Smith did a great job on defense, blocking 26 of Briar Wood's 27 shots.
To get into the championship game, the Saxons had to beat Flint Hill, Stone Bridge, and Broad Run before facing Briar Woods. This is Langley hockey’s second state championship; both wins have been against Briar Woods. The Saxons won their first title in 2019, when the current seniors were freshmen. Read the Washington Post write up of the game here.

covid protocols for student athletes: FCPS highly encourages all student athletes to be vaccinated for the spring athletic season, where all sports are held outside. During the spring athletic season, unvaccinated student athletes will not be required to participate in weekly surveillance testing but will be required to follow all CDC protocols pertaining to isolation and quarantine for COVID positive persons and close contacts.
Students who are unvaccinated and exposed to the virus as close contacts or become positive will miss both their sporting activities and valuable learning time in the classroom as they will need to follow the protocols for quarantine and isolation as outlined by the CDC.

Matt James, Ph.D from Psychology Today, writes, “Many of us know that forgiveness is a good thing. It frees us from bitterness and anger, two difficult emotions that can disrupt our physical health and hold us back. Often we’re consistent about forgiving others, but forgiving ourselves is more difficult.” Here is the article to explain why self-forgiveness can be difficult.

masks are optional: The CDC recently released new guidance and metrics around COVID-19 in communities and schools. As a reminder, wearing masks became optional for all on Mar 1.
Masks are no longer required during low and medium COVID-19 community spread levels. Some students and staff may choose to continue to wear a mask for personal or health reasons and others may not. Families, please talk with your children about your expectations for their mask use at school and remind them to support their classmates and teachers’ choices.
Because community levels are low, masks are now optional on school buses and vans.
The Virginia Department of Health (VDH) no longer requires schools to contact trace individual COVID-19 cases. As a result, FCPS will no longer contact trace individual cases. Contact tracing will occur in FCPS if there is an outbreak in accordance with the VDH requirement. Families and staff will get a daily notification if a COVID-19 case has been reported to the school that day.
