Saxon Service is back at Langley!
Langley is the only high school with a
service-learning program embedded in our curriculum
. LHS is committed to promoting service, believing it builds a sense of community and promotes self-esteem while making meaningful contributions to others.
Saxon Service occurs eight times over the year
—
Sept 25, Oct 30, Nov 20, Dec 18, Jan 29, Feb 26, Mar 25 and Apr 29
.
Fifteen activities
will be available at our
first Saxon Service next Wednesday
, including making sandwiches and blankets for the homeless, sorting old crayons to make new crayons for pediatric patients, knitting and crocheting blankets for young mothers and more!
Encourage your student to participate
and earn service hours toward their service learning cord.
Want to show your service commitment by volunteering for Saxon Service?
Adult volunteers are needed
from
8:30 am-10:30 am
. Please contact
Betsy Shomaker
at
enshomaker@fcps.edu
if interested.

The Crayon Initiative
is the spotlight activity at
Saxon Service
next week. Based in California, the Crayon Initiative collects used crayons, melts them down, creates new ones and distributes them to pediatric hospitals.
Last year, Langley collected 300 pounds of used crayons
and sorted and packaged them for shipment. That translated to about
1,500 new 8-crayon packets
for sick children! Click
here
to watch a video about the Crayon Initiative.
Students need a pass for Saxon Service.
Students, sign up with the QR code
link
using your FCPS Schools email address or
go to Student Services in advance. See you next Wednesday!
