from the ptsa president
Each year, seniors at Langley are treated to Ethics Day -- an all day program in which students spend the day learning and practicing ethical decision-making for life after high school. The students are taken through three different modules which pose ethical scenarios. In their small groups, they discuss the situations and evaluate their actions. The goal is to have our seniors thoughtfully consider how they might respond when presented with a difficult decision and the implications of those decisions .

Our Ethics Day committee works hard throughout the year to coordinate this wonderful program and now they need your help! Ethics Day is Tues, Mar 17 . Many table leaders are needed to facilitate this program for nearly 500 seniors! No experience is needed. If you are the parent of a freshman, sophomore, or junior, please consider volunteering for this rewarding event (friends, neighbors, etc. are welcome, too!). You can sign up here or contact Danica Alink at .

got capitol steps tickets?
The Capitol Steps will be here in less than 2 weeks!  They have used clever song parodies and skits to satirize politics and scandal for more than 30 years, all in the name of bi-partisan fun. They put the "mock" in democracy!

Seniors and families of seniors: Each Capitol Steps ticket sold by a senior or credited to their name gets that Langley senior an entry into the ANGP-sponsored raffle to win one of two tickets to Prom . For example, 5 tickets bought gives that senior 5 entries in the Prom ticket raffle. Have any questions or already bought tickets but want to credit them to a senior? Contact Kari Lervick at .
Still not quite sure who the Capitol Steps are or what they do? Watch this video ( 30 Years of Satire ), then join us at Langley to see how they tackle the latest political headlines.

The performance is at Langley on  Sun, Feb 23, 7 pm . Tickets are General Admission and cost  $37 . Tickets will not be mailed/emailed but will be held at the will-call table the night of the performance.  Order  online , or print the  form  and mail in your order by Feb 18 to ensure we receive it. For more info, check the ANGP  website or email .

Can’t make it yourself? Langley staff and teachers   would love to receive  Capitol Steps   tickets as gifts! Please consider making a  ticket donation   to the PTSA for the  LHS Staff Raffle.
Get your tickets next week for the 2020 Winter Dance , hosted by Langley SGA. PardiGras is next Sat, Feb 22, 8-10 pm in Langley Hall . Tickets are $10 in advance and at the door, and will be on sale during lunch.

Proceeds from this year's Winter Dance will benefit the Josh Anderson Foundation (JAF), a non-profit founded in 2012 in Vienna, VA and named after Josh Anderson, who died by suicide in 2009 at the age of seventeen. JAF’s mission is to provide adolescents with mental health education , resources and support . JAF works toward the day when adolescents like Josh never turn to suicide.
the legacy tree continues to grow
We're continuing to grow the Legacy Tree , across from the main office in Langley's lobby. It's looking lovely!

Our plan is to renovate the school's large courtyard this spring. The more leaf donations we get, the nicer the courtyard will be. Consider helping to "grow" the Legacy Tree by donating a leaf (copper $50, silver $100, gold $200) or bird or acorn ($500). You choose the engraved message.
The Legacy Tree will be a permanent, prominent record of courtyard contributors and a lasting legacy for Langley and your family . Leaves also make great tributes to teachers, friends, coaches, and grads!

To order your leaf -- or leaves! -- visit the PTSA website . Questions? Email .
your voice, your vote
Fairfax County PTA and the League of Women Voters have joined forces to promote voter registration through the FCPS High School Registration Challenge . The winners include each and every student who registers and votes , engaging in our civic responsibility and democratic values.

Saxons, if you turn 18 before Nov 3 you can register now. Then, vote on Nov 3 in the presidential election! Register online here , and click here for more details regarding the voter challenge and registration.
