On the Jersey Shore on Mother's Day, I walked a few blocks from my house to attend a service at the local St. Peter's Methodist Church. Their website indicated they were hosting Contemporary Service at 9 am - that's the type of church music and vibe I prefer.
I walked up to its double red doors and pulled. Locked. Oops, not the main entrance. I walked to the main entrance - more red doors - and pulled. Locked. Wait, what? I walked halfway around the block to try the side door. Locked. Huh? No service this morning? Are they closed? Then I walked into the alley and tried two more doors. Both locked ... dang.
Defeated and ready to give up after 5 locked doors, I needed to either 1) find a different church quickly or 2) return home to attend a Mass online. I returned to the front of the church and decided to walk past the building to see if there was maybe another building and other doors. Aha! I see people walking in! And there on the main street was a double glass door to enter their Community Hall, with a cheerful greeter standing by to open it. (I had forgotten the website read that the 9 AM service was being held in the hall, not the church. Duh.)
I was 11 minutes late, yet ... I was IN! The door had opened. THAT door was the one I was meant to walk through to experience an uplifting hour with good music and a great female homilist. The format of the service prayed for - and honored - us mothers very well on Mother's Day morning.
Snippeteers, this is a terrific analogy and lesson in closed doors. Life will present us sometimes with shut doors, closed doors, locked doors, doors without windows, stuck doors, and even doors slammed in our faces.
Be sure to knock on all the doors to enter your opportunity. If we keep attempting to open door after door after door, one of them eventually will open for us. And it will be welcoming.
THAT is the door you are meant to walk through.

"Mine is sitting on a balcony at the beach, watching and listening to the waves - for hours! I find what I want most as I get older is peace and tranquility."

"Taking a walk on the beach is a great way to feel your soul."

I am off to Africa next Friday!
Snippeteers, I am checking off two things on my bucket list: 1) travel to Africa and 2) do a mission trip. On May 26, I will have the sincere pleasure and unique opportunity to serve on a service trip with 13 others on our Volunteer Team thru Scott Willis Legacy Foundation, a nonprofit org founded by snippeteer Diane Hock (my longtime close friend) and her sister, Kate Willis. They founded Scott's Legacy to memorialize Kate's son, Scott, now an angel.
We will visit and resupply Mama Jane's Orphanage and another orphanage, two schools, a hospital, distribute 300 pairs of Shoes that Grow to kids, drop off toys, clothing, comfort dolls, fishing / sewing / garden supplies - and all kinds of other good stuff as we serve 3,000 children! Plus, a little fun, too ... we will go on Safari for 1.5 days in Tanzania; then in Zambia & Zimbabwe, we will stop to view Victoria Falls, one of the seven wonders of the world! There they have ziplines, gorge swings, and other adrenaline-racing activities. I am beyond excited to leave!
For those of you who donated supplies through Scott's Legacy's Amazon Wish List, donated pairs of Shoes That Grow, sewed clothing, crocheted comfort dolls, or made a monetary donation to the org ... THANK YOU for the love & support.
Please wish us Godspeed, a good successful journey, a positive experience, and prayers for our safety, protection and good health.
Asanta sana (thank you in Swahili)
I will write again in June, hopefully very inspired!
Ciao until we snippet again,
