Holy Week Fair

Have you seen what our Karen Ware Jackson has created? So cool! I'm trying to figure out a way to make a 1,000 mile drive a do-able commute so my kids could attend this.

Intergen has two offerings to help you!

Palm Sunday
Maundy Thursday and Good Friday

Are your services offered at times that are challenging for families or those who don't drive after dark? Look at these outlines from Building Faith.

Here are some more ideas for Holy Week observances that can be done when convenient for your congregation. (You could also use these in more traditional in-person ministry offerings. They are flexible!)

The best family playlists for Holy Week can be found here. They were written during the pandemic, but are eminently applicable to these days, too.

Want a peek into what I'm doing? Here are my plans. Easy to execute and plenty of time for you to adapt to your setting!

PALM SUNDAY

MAUNDY THURSDAY

We are having a potluck dinner followed by a worship service for two combined congregations. I'll spread the tables at the potluck dinner with butcher paper and jars of crayons and markers. Each table will have table tents with conversation questions, such as 'How do you think Jesus was feeling this night?, 'How do you think the disciples were feeling this night?' and "Do you think the disciples understood why Jesus washed their feet?'. Let people chat and doodle about the questions and encourage them to add their own.

GOOD FRIDAY

family experience

We're offering a family walk-through experience prior to the worship service. There will be three centers.

  • First Center: lego collaborative build. Lay the table with index cards with prompts to create a crown of thorns, three crosses, and a sealed tomb.
  • Second Center: lima bean planting in recycled newspaper pots and ziptop bags with a damp paper towel. These germinate in three days, so the families will be able to see how something can enter darkness like a tomb and host new ilfe.
  • Third Center: Stations of the Cross coloring pages from Illustrated Ministry.
