Welcome April, it's time to: SWEEP IT CLEAN& LIGHT IT UP!
Newport springs back to life this month with numerous outdoor events! Clean Ocean Access has 3 beach clean-ups planned -- Fort Adams on 4/8, Cory's Lane (Portsmouth) on 4/15 and Cliff Walk (Marine Ave) on 4/22. Ballard Park also has an Earth Day Clean-up scheduled for 4/22 (rain-date, 4/23).
The 4th Annual Daffodil Days Festival runs from 4/15-4/23 and Newport Arboretum Week (4/21-4/29) organizers ask us to help them "bathe Newport's urban forest in light!" Read more on this inspired idea below. I've also mixed in favorite indoor activities for those days ahead when April showers will water our soon-come May flowers. Please read, enjoy & share...
Island talent of every type can be enjoyed at open mics around town most every night. Among them are Wednesdays at The
Parlor on Broadway (with free billiards) and Thursdays at
Jimmy's Saloon Ocean Mic.
Newport Arboretum Week runs from 4/21- 4/2. In addition to special events planned, the organizers encourage all Newporters to
"Light Your Trees!" Their goal is to see
"Newport's urban forest bathed in brilliance." This sounds pretty cool to me-- I'm in! (Event organizers recommend economical, easily-installed, non-light-polluting laser fixtures-- available at Newport Hardware, Bellevue) Visit
Arboretum Week for info on additional events including
First Light Night and
Art of the Arbor opening night on 4/21.
