Happy September,

The ocean is warm, the sea breezes are lovely and soon the crowds will be thinning-- but all the while our days are becoming dramatically shorter. So without any further ado, let's get right to the event listings, because there's not a minute to waste this month!

Twelve Metres American Eagle and Columbia This weekend (9/3-9/4), the 37th Annual Museum of Yachting Classic Yacht Regatta  features
dozens of beautiful classics racing in the final stage of the North American Circuit of the Panerai Classic Yacht Challenge. Thousands of sailors and wanna-be-boaters will throng to Newport for the International Boat Show and Bowen's Wharf Wooden Boat Show from 9/15-9/18. The 2016 12 Metre North American Championship will be held from 9/23-9/25. You can view the legendary 12 metre fleet, including past America's Cup winners and contenders on the docks at Bannister's Wharf when not racing-- typically early morning and late afternoon.

Rhythm and Roots Festival This annual Rhythm & Roots Festival takes place this weekend with acts on 4 stages from Friday(9/2) through Sunday(9/4) at Ninigret Park in Charlestown. Acts include Lucinda Williams Bruce Hornsby & The Noisemakers, The David Grisman Sextet and Duke Robillard. I'm especially looking forward to Donna the Buffalo, Taj Mahal Trio and  Lucinda Williams on Saturday, see you there!

Taj Mahal The Shops at Long Wharf host free outdoor concerts this month including Abbey Rhode on 9/5, *Becky Chase Band on 9/10, Ramos & Phillips on 9/12 and InTandem on 9/26-- all shows are from 1pm-5pm. Common Cheryl Wheeler Fence Music welcomes back perennial favorite Cheryl Wheeler on 9/17, with Seamus Galligan opening.

Narrows Festival of the Arts The Narrow's Center for the Arts has a very busy month starting with an Opening Act Contest on 9/8 followed by their 15th Annual Festival of the Arts on 9/11. This year's lineup includes Amy Helm, Paul Cebar and Tomorrow Sound, Alexi Suter Band, Roy Sludge, Ghosts of Paul Revere, Butch McCarthy, TJ's Music All -Stars as well as children's activities, food and craft vendors. Later this month Mark Cutleryou can check out Session Americana on 9/16, Jon Jor genson Bluegrass Band on 9/16, Mark Cutler and the Men of Great Courage on 9/17 with *BCB opening, Darrel Scott Old Crow Medicine Showwith Matt Nakoa on 9/22 and Terry Bozzio on 9/29.

Old Crow Medicine Show appears at the Zeiterion Performing Arts Center on 9/15 and Nory's hosts Kevin Gordon on 9/28.

Captain Fantastic newportFilm presents another in their series of outdoor screenings on the lawn at the Newport Art Museum tonight (9/1)-- Maurizio Cattelan: Be Right Back and The Missing Ingredient at the Newport Mansions Wine & Food Festival on 9/22. on  Also tonight, the Jane Pickens Theater presents Kenneth Branaugh Theatre Company's Romeo & Juliet. Later this month see the Beatles Touring Years on 9/15, Wood, Sails, Dreams! on 9/17. Captain Fantastic  and Hunt For Wilderpeople both run Into The Sea from 9/23-9/29. Harry & Snow and Danny Says will both be shown at Art House Theater Day on 9/24. On 9/27, Newport Restoration presents Into the Sea at Rough Point-- a "full-hearted documentary about pioneering sportswomen-- where surf and Middle Eastern cultures collide."

Wine Run
You can easily run 2 fun 5Ks this weekend! On 9/3 enjoy the Fort Taber Sunset 5K and work up a thirst at the 8th Annual Finish for A Guiness 5K on 9/4. On 9/11- in keeping with our dash and drink theme- T he Wine Run at Newport Vineyards features a scenic course (less than 4 miles) along Aquidneck Land Trust's Greenway Trail and trough the Vineyards. This race is followed by a wine tasting and BBQ with live music. On 9/24, choose to run either 1/2 marathon 4 Bridges Rideor a 5K course on the winding roads of Conanicut Island in the Jamestown Rhode Race.  For 2-wheelers, StarRide 16 ( 3 - 45 mile courses) is set for 9/11, The Four Bridges Ride (26 miles) rolls on 9/24 and The 8th Annual Tour de Newport (10, 25 and 45 mile courses) will be held on 9/25.
