The start of the school year often comes with information overload, so I hope that your family had an opportunity to relax over the extended Labor Day Weekend! Now that we've had a couple of weeks to settle in, keep in mind these ways to stay up to date on what is happening around Langley:
back to school night: Watch for school communication regarding Back to School Night on Wed, Sept 14.
ptsa general membership meetings: Mark your calendar for Wed, Sept 28 at 9:30 am, in the Lecture Hall.
ptsa website: Visit ptsalangley.org and take some time to look around! From class news to links to virtual technology help to links to student organizations, it's a great resource for all LHS parents.
class events: Check your class page on the PTSA website, as well as this newsletter, for upcoming dates including class coffees and class dinners. Be sure you've signed up for your class mailing list. These are all important ways to get class-specific news and updates and connect with parents in your grade level.
langley enews: And of course you have this newsletter! We do our best to include details about everything happening around the school. We count on our community for submissions, so if you'd like to share news of your student's clubs or sports, let us know. Anyone can submit an item by emailing enewslangley@gmail.com. Guidelines are here.
langley hs website: Information from LHS administration can be found here. Find the latest news, announcements and details about academics, activities and much more. In addition, sign-up for This Week at Langley and other weekly correspondence through the News You Choose link here.
If you take advantage of these resources, you should be able to find the answers to almost any question about life at Langley. Still can't find the answer? Let me know at ptsalangley@gmail.com.
And of course, Homecoming is this weekend! I wish everyone a fun – and safe – time.
~ Jamie H. Loving, PTSA President

Help landscape the last of Langley's three courtyards and donate a leaf for Langley's Legacy Tree!
By donating a leaf (copper $50, silver $100, gold $200) or bird or acorn ($500), you're helping to complete the courtyard renovation and "grow" the Legacy Tree – a beautiful wall sculpture across from the Main Office in Langley's Lobby. You choose the engraved message! The Legacy Tree is a permanent, prominent record of courtyard contributors and a lasting legacy for Langley and your family. Leaves also make great tributes to teachers, friends, pets, coaches, and grads!
Thanks to the 600 generous Langley families and local organizations who've already donated a leaf, bird, or acorn.

Does your teen know what to do with an intoxicated friend? Here are a few signs of alcohol poisoning: mental confusion, difficulty remaining conscious or inability to wake up, blackout (gaps in memory) and vomiting. Even if a person is passed out, alcohol is still being processed and the blood alcohol concentration (BAC) could continue to rise. Help your teen understand the importance of getting their friend help. Water, coffee and walking will not make a person sober. Call 911. Here is a tip sheet to better understand alcohol overdose.
