october 2020

Umm, I'm sorry...how is it that November is nearly upon us?! They say time flies when you're having fun... not sure that applies to these past eight months! On a serious note, we're all doing our best to stay sane and grateful and the clients who are keeping us busy are certainly checking off both of those boxes for us. In this month's newsletter we introduce you to your new breakfast routine, a serious deal at one of our favorite anytime spots in the Washington, D.C. area, and a fun socially-distanced outing where we can get in all of the fall feels.

Earlier this month I participated in a panel with some of my favorite CPG experts in the food & bev world -- if you missed it you can catch it here. And, not to bury the lead, but we officially parted ways with our beloved home of the past six years on Chauncy Street. While it may not have been our desire to move, we know that times are a-changing and we're optimistic about what the next chapter holds for us! Thank you again from the bottom of my heart to all of you who shared our plight, spread news of our space, and did all of you could to help us figure out a way to stay. I'm grateful for all of you, and try to remind myself daily of the old adage that "sometimes not getting what you want is a wonderful stroke of luck."

Happy Halloween...and don't forget to vote!

calise bakery
"Breakfast is the most important meal of the day" is something most of us likely heard as kids. While the phrase was originally coined by Kellogg's to get us to eat our Cornflakes, today as adults we definitely get the logic even in spite of the marketing spin -- breakfast fuels our bodies to take on the day ahead. And that's a good thing because, as of late, our days have been nothing short of cray.

To keep us on track for "getting sh*t done," we've added Calise Bakery's new Brioche Style Cinnamon Chip Texas Toast to our grocery list. The freshly baked bread (that just happens to be nut, egg & dairy free) combines melt-in-your-mouth cinnamon chips with Calise's signature light and airy texture and beloved brioche-style flavor, making it the perfect choice for French Toast or on its own with a pat of butter. A family-run biz for over a century, Calise is well-known for its high quality, authentic Italian bread and dinner rolls, and with Cinnamon Chip Texas Toast, they'll now also be a staple at many a breakfast table.

Marketing tactic or not, we like to think that Mr. Kellogg knew what he was talking about. And if you don't believe him, take our word for it -- one taste of our Calise Cinnamon Chip Monkey Bread Bake and you'll never skip breakfast again!

bob & edith's diner
1969 was quite a year -- Neil Armstrong and Buzz Aldrin made "one small step for man, one giant leap for mankind," The Beatles blessed us with Abbey Road, and the Brady Bunch sang their way into our hearts for the first time. To add to that list of iconic moments in time, Robert and Edith Bolton opened the first location of their namesake diner, Bob & Edith's, in Arlington, Virginia.

For those not quick with math, that's half a century of serving up cooked-to-order diner favorites around-the-clock. In restaurant years, that might as well be forever. So, to close out their big 5-0, Bob & Edith's is celebrating in an equally big way: through the end of 2020, customers can enjoy 2 Signature B&E (bacon & egg) Burgers, 2 sides of fries, and 2 slices of any choice of scrumptious pie for only $19.69.

Fifty years, five locations, three generations of family ownership, and countless loyal fans -- this is one golden anni worth celebrating. And, hey -- if Bob & Edith's wants to share the love with us in 2020 (another year none of us will forget anytime soon), who are we to stop them?!

arsenal yards
Call us basic, but we're so down with all things fall -- give us a PSL, cozy flannel, and a pumpkin patch and we're the happiest of campers. Costume parties and trick-or-treating might be a no-go this year, but considering we'll likely be spending much of the winter indoors, we're taking full advantage of light jacket weather and closing out the month with Fall Falladays at Arsenal Yards.

The River Green at Arsenal Yards in Watertown is decked out with hay bales, gourds, and pumpkins for family-friendly, socially-distanced fun through the end of the month. Grab takeout from Shake Shack, City Works, Frank Pepe's and more, guess the weight of a giant pumpkin for a chance to win prizes, and sing along to some tunes with the Soul Monstah's and Jeff Jam. End the week with A Monster Mash, featuring a live DJ, costume contest and other treats.

Be sure to register in advance online for these autumnal activities because space is limited. If you're looking for us, we'll be the ones in the cable knit sweaters and Bean boots, seeking out the best lighting for our foliage photos. Fall -- it's not just a season, it's a lifestyle.
