october 2025

Greetings!

It's officially fall in New England, and we've got a whole lotta autumn action and activity to prove it. A neighborly whiskey & beer collab, the best harvest party of them all, and a dinner worth driving to Newport for - all in this issue of marlo monthly, below.

While my love for fall foliage season has surely grown after living on the east coast for so long, Detroit will always be my OG hometown and - no matter how long I've been away from the Motor City - she's always got my back. Case in point, I had the privilege of being featured in the September/October issue of DBusiness Magazine, which covered my biz journey from the Great Lake state all the way to The Hub. If you're curious how someone becomes an east coaster for life, grab a seat, crack open a seasonal cider, and check out how this apple fell far from The D!

narragansett beer

A beer and whiskey walk into a bar(rel)... Nope, it’s not the start of a bad joke, it’s the start of Little Rhody’s boldest collab yet.

Iconic craft brewer Narragansett Beer and RI-based Wheel Horse Whiskey decided a casual neighborly borrow wasn’t enough, so they went full-on barrel swap that birthed double the trouble. The result? A boozy, velvety, dangerously sippable Barrel-Aged Baltic Porter where notes of toffee, coffee, and chocolate cozy up to vanilla (translation: #cuffingszn in a glass) and Wheel Horse's first-ever beer-finished bourbon, both born from the same set of casks. The best part? No picking sides necessary - whether you’re a beer buff, whiskey stan, or just someone who likes their fall sips with a little extra punch, this duo’s got you covered.

If you missed them at the October 2nd launch party, you'd best hustle to hunt the whiskey down online or at select New England stores while it lasts, because these bottles will go fast - and that's no joke!

aurelia

150 years young and she still knows how to steal the spotlight. Of course, we’re talking about Newport’s legendary Castle Hill Inn, which will be throwing a sesquicentennial birthday bash that even the most fanatical of foodies would die for. Later this month, the Inn’s AAA Five Diamond gem, Aurelia, will team up with Copenhagen culinary darling Nick Curtin (yes, that Michelin-starred chef from Alouette) for the dinner party to end all dinner parties.

And what a celebration it will be! After all, it isn’t every day that Aurelia’s home, the storied Agassiz Mansion, reaches that century-and-a-half mark. Originally built by a Harvard marine biologist with a flair for grandeur (a fella after our very own heart), the mansion now houses the inn, as well as Aurelia, where local, sustainable, and seasonal New England cuisine takes center stage. Pair that with Curtin’s globally celebrated “Plot System” approach (think boundary-pushing dishes rooted in sustainability and terroir), and you’ve got a collab that’s part history lesson, part love letter to ingredients, and all kinds of delicious.

As if this 150-and-fabulous festivity wasn’t enough on its own, here’s a bonus fun fact for all you local historians: Curtin’s a Providence native, so this is more than just a guest-chef dinner, it’s a full-circle homecoming to the beloved Ocean State. So make your resy, grab your party hat, and bring your appetite - this is one big b-day celebration you won't want to miss!

boston public market

Listen up, pumpkin spice party peeps - Boston’s actual tastiest fall tradition is back, and trust us, it has nothing to do with a gourd-flavored latte. For those in the know, the annual Boston Public Market Harvest Party is the place to be to clink glasses, raise a fork, and celebrate with the city’s best of the best local food producers and culinary artisans. And while every year’s fête seems to outdo the last, we can assure you that this year’s 10th anniversary extravaganza honoring our fave non-profit will top them all. After all, a decade of staying power is the ultimate flex, proving that you really can do well by doing good.

Come for the incredible live music, celebratory dancing, stunning silent auction prizes, and cocktails so good you’ll be texting the recipe to yourself by the second sip. But stay for the mouth-watering bites from the BPM’s unique local food purveyors who never disappoint (seconds and thirds encouraged, btw…we may or may not speak from past experience #sorrynotsorry). That’s right, think of this night to remember as a grand grazing passport to the BPM’s greatest hits: seafood, sandwiches, ice cream, crêpes, and cider donuts you most decidedly don’t need to visit a crazy crowded apple orchard to enjoy. Warning: humblebragging on Instagram is basically mandatory with the beautiful bounty you are about to receive.

But remember, this autumn fling isn’t here for a long time, just a fabulous time. So, grab your friends, your best “sweater weather” look, and get ready to party. Let’s raise a glass to the harvest, the hustle, and the fact that fall tastes way better when someone else does the cooking.
