october 2018

September came in fast and furious, pretty much erasing all memory of summertime fun. But when you get to work with the kinds of clients we do every day, gearing up for the fall is truly a treat!

From hosting our trip to Detroit (#marloinmotown!), to opening some of the city's hottest new restaurants, to launching a chip for a cause, our schedules since Labor Day have been jam-packed. October is coming in just as strong across the marlo teams and we're excited to finally launch the complete branding solutions (identity, collateral and website) we've been working on for Royal Food Import Corp. and Alcove restaurant. Take a look and let us know what you think!

alcove
"I fell in love with restaurant people. They always seemed to be paying a debt they didn't owe."
-- Patrick O'Connell, award-winning chef and proprietor of The Inn at Little Washington

We couldn't agree more -- its one of the many reasons why we love working with clients in the restaurant biz, surrounded by people as passionate about their work as we are. One such person is Tom Schlesinger-Guidelli, who began his career working for his uncle, James Beard Award-winning chef and author, Chris Schlesinger. Following stints behind the bar at Eastern Standard and Craigie on Main, Tom joined the original Island Creek Oyster Bar as opening GM. Fast forward to 2018, and congratulations are in order as he embarks on his first solo venture, Alcove.

A warm, welcoming nook perched on Lovejoy Wharf next to TD Garden, Alcove was inspired by Tom's lifetime of food and drink immersion (from the fishing trips and farm stands of his youth, to the winery visits and fine-dining spots of his adulthood). The vibe is decidedly an homage to his experiences as well; ever wish the sunset-to-sundown hospitality of Eastern Standard was available elsewhere than just Kenmore Square? Now it pretty much is. Open early for lunch and always at the ready to serve the Bruins or Celtics fans that stream out looking for a late night nosh, Alcove is your answer.

With an all-star team of industry vets, an unbeatable location between the water (summer outdoor dining much?) and TD Garden, thoughtful wine, stellar cocktails and an approachable menu designed to suit every taste, we'd say Alcove is hospitality at its finest. Not to mention one you'll be gladly indebted to, just as they are to us.

nahita
Given the choice, we'd rather splurge our hard-earned dollars on an international vacay over a luxe Chanel bag or Cartier watch. Unfortunately, #gettingshitdone doesn't always allow for leisurely getaways. So, when we're craving a bit of global influence, we head to Nahita , the city's most luxurious new dining concept and the first Boston spot from famed Turkish restaurant group d.ream. Nahita, aptly named after an ancient Turkish village, combines Asian and Latin American cuisines with a touch of Turkish influence.

Upon first stepping into Nahita, you feel as if you've stumbled upon an urban jungle -- lush plants hang from bronze arches and a strikingly color-saturated wallpapered mural immediately catches the eye. You swoon in amazement at the taste of smoke sans alcohol in the aptly-named mezcal cocktail, Smoke Under Water, complete with hand-carved ice cube adorned with the restaurant's bird icon. As you finally sink into the rich brown leather banquettes and peruse the menu, your taste buds are tantalized by the variety of choices: Nikkei ( cebiches and tiraditos), Japanese ( sashimi) and Latin American ( tacos, queso, guac) offerings that meld together into one internationally-defined experience.

So when #totravelistoeat simply isn't an option thanks to [fill in the blank: work, kids, life in general], at least now you can rest assured that Nahita will allow you to pretend like it is.

cape cod chips
From ribbons and t-shirts to charity walks and bake sales, pink permeates our world every October. Still the second leading cause of death among women, pretty much everyone can say they know someone who has been affected by breast cancer.

One of the many charitable brands going pink this year is iconic New England (and marlo) favorite, Cape Cod  Potato Chips. Proceeds from the limited-batch Cape Cod Pink Himalayan Salt & Red Wine Vinegar Potato Chips (up to $25,000) will support the Susan F. Smith Center for Women's Cancers at Dana-Farber Cancer Institute. And have no fear -- this isn't an example of some crap flavor combo designed to ride the pink wave! The unique blend of tangy red wine vinegar and savory pink Himalayan salt come together perfectly in Cape Cod's signature kettle-cooked chip (and the bright pink bag is #Instagrammable AF).

You bet we'll be snacking on Cape Cod Potato Chips all month long in support. Or, shall we say, crunching for a cure?!
