september 2020

Summer has officially come to a close, as we can tell by chillier days, school days on Zoom, and eviction moratorium deadlines getting real.

To that last point, if you've been following the news, you're probably aware that the deadline for Governor Baker's eviction moratorium will be upon us in a few weeks' time. And if you've been following any of our Hail Mary postseither from us or as a result of the shares by the hundreds of kindhearted friends and strangers who helped us to spread word across their networks, you're also probably aware that we remain open to exploring how we could share our space with any potential partners.

However, being realistic with each passing day, it's likely that we will be forced to leave our home of the past six years. While we've loved every moment spent at 38 Chauncy, no matter what happens, marlo marketing will be the same as we've always been -- passionate about our clients, supportive of our colleagues, and engaged in our community -- regardless of where we find ourselves working from in the future.

Many of you have reached out, acknowledging my willingness to be so open about our struggles. While I appreciate the intent and thank you for your supportive words, at the end of the day, our challenges -- as a company focused in the hospitality and lifestyle industries -- are to be expected given the circumstances and, more importantly, are nothing compared to the situations in which so many of our fellow Americans find themselves. This has been bigger than any one of us and it will take the work of all of us to make it to the other side.

As I wrote back in April, "Survive the Next Few Months & The World is Your Oyster." While I may have gotten the timeline wrong, I still firmly believe in the premise. So thank you to everyone who has helped us survive 'til now: old clients & new, my amazing team -- current & past -- and everyone who has offered their support, guidance, and wisdom. I'm grateful for all of you, and know without a doubt that it's because of all of you that -- one day soon -- the world will once again be our oyster.

webinar: side hustle/day job
You've heard the stories -- Apple, Spanx, Under Armour, Yankee Candle and countless other successful companies started out as side hustles -- a way to explore passions while grinding away at a (many times unfulfilling) nine-to-five. But as the wise Gary Vee once said, "If you live for the weekends and vacations, your shit is broken."

If COVID has brought anything to light, it's that there really is no "right time" to make your dream a reality and -- if your dream is to start a food or beverage brand -- we've got some expert advice to get you started. Join us on October 9th for COVID Chaos Update: Turning Your Side Hustle Into Your Day Job. Moderated by Bob Burke of National Products Consulting, who's been helping bring specialty products to market for over 20 years, the webinar's panel of experts (including insight about legal, distribution, broker, operations, and marketing, natch) will lay out the tools you need to succeed as a food & beverage brand in today's competitive market.

So if your keto pumpkin pie fat bombs are in high demand or you've been repeatedly told your Nonna's biscotti recipe is next level, why not take a chance on your passion project? And when you start bringing in the dough and need some help with marketing, you know just who to call!

cafe landwer picnic packages
Like many, we spent the first few of months of quarantine in our kitchens, ambitiously experimenting with Pinterest recipes, Dalgona coffee, and sourdough starters in our newfound free time. However, we won't hesitate to admit that our days pretending to be Julia Child were clearly numbered.

Now that we've become well-acquainted with takeout QSR code menus and delivery apps, we think we're more than qualified to make this recommendation to our loyal readers: Cafe Landwer's Picnic Packages will satisfy the crew every time. With just a few clicks on the website, you can order one of three same-day packages -- Mediterranean, Burgers, and Plant Based -- all three of which include Landwer's famous Rozalach and an adorable tote bag. Add on reusable utensils and a mimosa kit and brunch (or any meal, really) is complete!

While we may not be the star chefs we imagined ourselves to be in March, we're
A-OK with sticking to what we know best -- making sure our favorite restaurants survive by ordering food & drink to-go.

boston lights: a lantern experience
Remember the #2020challenge meme that dominated our social feeds this summer that poked fun at how progressively worse the year seems to get? Unfortunately, all signs point to the last few months of the year staying status quo. We're not trying to be Debbie Downers, though -- we are embracing every opportunity to (safely) enjoy all that fall has to offer. Topping off our list of "must dos" is a visit to Franklin Park Zoo for Boston Lights: A Lantern Experience

Think 50 large scale displays comprised of hundreds of colorful LED lanterns, including a walk-through shark tunnel, a 197-foot-long dragon, vibrant flowers, Asian lantern scenes, and many more. Visitors to the Insta-worthy exhibition will also learn about how they can help the Zoo in its commitment to conservation.

With plenty of space to social distance, timed entries, and other safety protocols in place, a visit to Boston Lights is a fun excursion outside of the house for all ages. The experience is open daily now through November 1 and it's no surprise that it's selling out fast, so get your tix online ASAP.

2020 has been a crappy year for more reasons than we can count, but thanks to Franklin Park Zoo, we can all enjoy a little light as we get closer to 2021 and hopefully, the end of the proverbial tunnel.
