Greetings!

Ciao, friends! Just back from vacation in the Italian 'heel,' followed by a hospitality industry conference in Prague. I know, life is rough. However, the one bummer about end of season travel is that when I left the States it was summer and when I returned it was most decidedly fall. On the bright side, despite the unwanted drop in temp, autumnal weather does make it easier to indulge in cozy cocktails, stick-to-your-ribs burgers, and harvest celebrations; read on for more in this issue of marlo monthly.

And of course with the advent of fall comes the most divisive time of year: to PSL or not to PSL – that is the question. Well, a sign at a Starbucks in Prague for Pumpkin Spice Latte season made it pretty clear – if you can't beat 'em, join 'em. So pumpkin everything, bring it on!
bully boy
There’s just something about fall that makes us giddy; crisp weather, cozy throws, and of course the return of our fave fall bevvies. But before you go reaching for your PSL, we suggest stocking your bar cart with something a little bit stronger.

Enter Bully Boy Distillers, and their all-new bottled Manhattan. A twist on the classic cocktail beloved by whiskey enthusiasts everywhere, the third bottled cocktail in the distillery’s portfolio blends Bully Boy’s signature American Straight Whiskey, Amaro, Brovo Pretty Vermouth, and Angostura Bitters to evoke classic notes of clove, cinnamon, and anise, plus exotic floral notes all balanced by a strong whiskey backbone. Added bonus? No waiting for a flawlessly mixed cocktail. Simply pour over ice and garnish with a cherry or orange. The perfect #sweaterweather libation, done and done!

Not in New England? Never fear, fellow imbibers – beginning next month Bully Boy’s Manhattan will be available for shipping nationwide. A week too long to wait? Check out their other spirit and cocktail offerings always available here. Now that makes for a happy fall!

harlem shake
Not to give ourselves too much credit, but when it comes to the next big thing, we think we’re pretty good at spotting the real deal when we see it – especially when it comes to crave-worthy burgers and shakes. That’s why we’re shouting from the rooftops that our friends at Harlem Shake are a must-try anytime you’re near the five boroughs. Celebrating their ninth year in Harlem and first year in Park Slope, when we say Harlem Shake is serving up a vibe we actually might be underselling it!

Featuring the retro-stylings of your favorite diner layered with the rich energy of Harlem’s vibrant culture (Exhibits 1 & 2: the Wall of Fame and the Wall of Fro), the neighborhood spot is full of good times and even better food and drinks made with only the highest-quality ingredients, like Pat LaFrieda beef and Blue Marble Ice Cream. As their wine list proudly declares: whether you’re "cheap, good or bougie" they have something to satisfy any and all tastebuds or budget!

And for those of you not venturing to the Big Apple any time soon, you’re in luck because a Harlem Shake franchise may soon be in your neighborhood. Burgers, shakes, and good times the Harlem Way – soon to be nationwide!

harvest party at boston public market
Ain't no party like a Harvest Party, and we can't wait to celebrate the bounty of New England at the Boston Public Market! A perfect excuse to break out the flannel, corduroy, and suede, the "Market on a Mission's" annual fundraiser will celebrate everything great about the fall season while raising money for an even greater cause. Think tasty seasonal bites from the market's food entrepreneurs, craft libations featuring local spirits from the market's brand-new Pine Bar, and the chance to turn up the 'beet' with live music and dancing. Our favorite part? Photos with BPM's annual giant "Pumpking" – get those cameras ready, Instagrammers, as this is one GIANT photo op you won't want to miss!

Even more so than our love for giant squash, we love that proceeds raised from ticket sales and sponsorships further help the Market continue to support local entrepreneurs, educate visitors on the importance of a resilient and equitable food system, and cultivate a diverse community around food. A variety of ticket levels make this accessible to all – just like the BPM strives to do with food equity in New England. So we'll see you at the BPM and look forward to raising a glass to celebrate all things local and delicious!
