When Jane moved to Asheville and didn't know anyone, Brunch B'yachad at the JCC played an important part in her life. At Brunch, she made local friends and got to know her new community. Even now, after five years of being fully integrated in her community, Jane still looks forward to attending every week.

Who does not like eating delicious bagels, with-its, and schmoozing? More than that, Brunch B'yachad is all about sharing, learning, seeking, and connecting. It is a place to meet new people and make friends. It provides participants with an opportunity to feel comfortable in the company of like-minded and non-like-minded people united by a common narrative. We share experiences and participate in new ones. We laugh, sound off, question, give, and receive. We think, re-think, and broaden our knowledge base. Our leader, Geri Garfinkel-Gershon's enthusiasm, creativity, and organization (not to mention tolerance) is unmatched. One never knows what to expect, but fun is always on the menu.

When times have been challenging, isolating, or frightening — like during the height of the COVID pandemic or the aftermath of Hurricane Helene — Brunch B'yachad friends have found ways to continue to connect and support one another via zoom, text, and more. And then, finally, resuming Brunch B'yachad in-person has signaled a return to joy, comfort, and human-to-human connection.

This holiday season, consider giving the gift of connection. Your donation to the JCC will support adult programs like Brunch B'yachad, LGBTQ Jew, and Welcome Shabbat, which build and strengthen adult communities in times of challenge, celebration, and everything in between.

than just a bagel —

it's connection when

we need it most.
