Our daughter Sylvie is a fish! We started swim lessons at the JCC just before she turned six months old. Sylvie was born during late March 2020, a time when we were almost completely isolated, and her swim lessons were the only time we saw other people. We were ever grateful for that early introduction to the water and the safely distanced connection with other humans during an extremely unusual time!

As the months passed, we were concerned when our bright, beautiful, and joyful child did not reach developmental milestones. After over a year of seeing specialists and testing, we received a diagnosis of cerebral palsy along with a lot of unknowns about what her physical capabilities could be. We continued swim lessons at the JCC, devotedly attending each session. Sylvie would light up with excitement when we arrived at the pool. The water helped her transcend physical limitations, and I was delighted to see her begin to swim on her own, even before she was really walking.

The JCC Aquatics Program allowed and encouraged our daughter (and me) to thrive. We have received constant support and love from Wendy, the incredible staff, and so many of the families who participate. The community at the JCC is a staple in our lives and such a blessing to our family.
