Business Partners, Compliance and Employee/Labor Relations Edition

A Note From Our HR Director

Wow, we have officially completed more than half of 2023! So far this year you have been asked to focus on you and your development, your family, your mental health, and your communication style. During July, America celebrates its independence. So while freedom is top of mind this month, from what/whom are you gaining independence and freedom? It could be freedom from a personal or professional relationship that no longer benefits you, a career or job change, a new hairstyle, a wardrobe refresh, you name it. You are in complete control of your destiny, so take that leap of faith and begin your freedom walk. Don’t look back because you cannot change the past, but instead forge a path forward that allows you to be your true, authentic self and unapologetically independent and free! You may lose some people along the way, but that’s ok because maybe they were not meant to be a part of this next chapter of the book of YOU.

This month’s e-newsletter highlights your Business Partners and the Compliance and Employee/Labor Relations Teams. Both teams are responsible for striking a delicate balance between protecting the organization and protecting the employee. They serve as internal consultants and strategic partners with the departments/divisions to ensure all of your HR needs are met. Happy reading!

Thank you for all you do.

The BEST is yet to come 😊

Regards,

Yvette M. Best, EdD, CCP, SPHR/SHRM-SCP

Human Resource Business Partner (HRBPs) Team

The HR Business Partner is a strategic partner that provides support to department operations and countywide HR functions. Some of the services offered by the HR Business Partner overlap with the Employee Relations team as shown in the diagram below.

Important Reminders from Your HRBPs

Are you a recent graduate? Don’t forget to update your level of education in your personnel file by completing the Verification of Education form

Our Employee Assistance Program provides grief counseling for employees who have experienced a loss, including the death of an employee. For these critical incidents, the HR Business Partner works closely with the department to arrange for onsite grief counseling.

Compliance and Employee/Labor Relations Team

The Compliance and Employee/Labor Relations section works closely with management, employees, and labor unions to create and maintain a fair, productive, and professional workplace. The section ensures internal compliance with federal and state laws impacting key HR programs and ensures full compliance with mandatory labor law posting requirements. It ensures workplace standards and policies are met and, that management and employee concerns are addressed in a timely manner.
