Greetings Terriers!
Welcome to the beginning of February, which also marks the start of Black History Month! This month celebrates the history, culture, and contributions of people of African descent.
Black History Month was created by Dr. Carter G. Woodson in February, 1926. Originally, it was a week of celebration called "Negro History Week". He wanted to change how people understood US history by highlighting the role that Black people played.
He chose February because it contained the birthdays of Frederick Douglass and Abraham Lincoln, two important figures in Black History. The Black community had already been honoring Lincoln's and Douglass' birthdays. Putting Negro History Week at this time made sense because it was already being celebrated by the Black community.
This year marks the 100th celebration of Black History Month! This year the theme is "A Century of Black History Commemorations." This theme is meant to reflect on the impact that these celebrations have had on Black people today and throughout history. Commemorations have played a role in shaping identities, advancing equality, and preserving histories that may have otherwise been lost.

Marking 250 years since the Revolutionary War and the signing of the Declaration of Independence, the exhibition Revolution! 250 Years of Art & Activism in Boston reflects on the nation’s founding ideals, asking: To whom were these promises made? And how have people worked together to ensure they were kept?
Revolution! spans more than two centuries of Boston’s role in the ongoing struggle for freedom and justice, presenting works that were historic in their own time and remain resonant today. Carefully curated from BPL’s arts collections, the objects on display are of extraordinary significance – prints, photographs, drawings, paintings, and sculpture.
Contemporary works by Boston-based and regional artists place these historic works in conversation with the present. Admission is FREE TO ALL.

Intaglios of Breath and Light: An Indigenous Present Short Film Program - Institute of Contemporary Art
Filmmaker and visual artist Sky Hopinka (Ho-Chunk Nation/Pechanga Band of Luiseño Indians) curates a selection of short films by Native North American contemporary artists relating to the themes of An Indigenous Present, including abstraction, transculturalism, and Indigenous creative practice. We are seeking a Summer Associate to join our team for Summer 2026. This role is designed for candidates who want to bridge advanced academic research and real-world climate impact, and who are excited to see how frontier science and technology translate into investment and philanthropic strategy.
You will work closely with the Foundation’s investment and grantmaking team on live opportunities, helping evaluate cutting-edge climate technologies, assess scientific and technical claims, and shape funding and investment theses.
