Greetings Terriers!
It's our final week before spring break, congrats on getting this far in the semester! This week we are going to be highlighting the start of Women's History Month. Every year, March is dedicated to honoring women's contributions and achievements throughout history.
This celebration was created in 1978 in Santa Rosa, California by the Education Task Force of Sonoma County. It was originally "Women's History Week," and the week of March 8th was celebrated because it overlapped with National Women's Day. Celebrations spread across the country, and in 1982 Women's History Week was celebrated nationally for the first time.
The National Women's History Alliance lobbied to make the celebration an entire month, and it was made official in 1987 when President Reagan signed a proclamation. Since then, many US presidents have proclaimed the month of March as National Women's History Month. It is also celebrated internationally in countries such as Germany, Australia, and the UK.
This year's theme is "Leading the Change: Women Shaping a Sustainable Future." This theme is focused on highlighting women who are working towards environmental, societal, and economic sustainability. It is recognizing these powerful leaders, advocates, and organizers who are driving change and making a better and more equitable world for the future.

Toni Ko is the founder of NYX Cosmetics, and in addition to leading the company she also helps fund other female-led businesses.
Ko a first generation immigrant in the US, who moved to California from South Korea at only 13. Growing up, she worked in her family's cosmetics store, and developed a passion for the work. She noticed that it was hard to find good makeup products at good prices, so she founded NYX Cosmetics to provide better products at lower prices.
She started NYX on her own in 1999, and the company earned over $2 million in revenue in the first year. In 2014, Ko started the Toni Ko Foundation, supporting organizations that care for children and support women's empowerment.

Muriel Siebert was a Wall Street broker, and the first woman to become a member of the New York Stock Exchange. She was also the first woman to become the superintendent of banking for New York State.
Born in 1928 in Ohio to a Jewish family, Siebert knew she wanted to work in the New York Stock Exchange. When she started her career, she struggled with being paid significantly less than men in her field. A close friend told her that to solve the issue, she should buy a seat on the New York Stock Exchange. The process was very difficult for her, but after receiving sponsorship and a bank loan, Siebert became the first woman to buy a seat and become a member of the New York Stock Exchange in 1967.
She successfully campaigned to get a women's restroom on the 7th floor of the building, and in 1990 she started the Siebert Entrepreneurial Philanthropic Plan to help buyers give money to charities. After her death in 2013, the New York Stock Exchange named a room after her, with Siebert Hall becoming the first room in the building to be named after a person.

Maggie Lena Walker was the first woman to own a bank in the United States, and inspired many other women to enter the field.
She was born in 1864 to enslaved parents, and after the civil war she worked to support her family. She was always interested in accounting and math, and she started a community insurance company for women. In 1903, she created St. Luke Penny Savings Bank in Virginia, the first bank ever to be owned by a woman. She wanted her bank to encourage financial independence in the black community, and even did outreach encouraging children to save their money. Her bank later merged with Richmond Second Street's Savings Bank, and still exists today as the Consolidated Bank and Trust Company.
Walker was also a community leader. She was vice president of the Richmond, Virginia branch of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP) and also held leadership roles in the National Association of Colored Women (NACW).

Tassels for Terriers - Dean of Students
Commencement is one of the most exciting times of year at any university as friends and family arrive on campus to celebrate with their graduating students.
Every year, dozens of students who face financial hardship must skip out on these celebrations because they cannot afford to purchase graduation regalia. To prevent this, Boston University created the Tassels for Terriers program to provide caps, gowns, and other graduation regalia to both undergraduate and graduate students in need. Because at BU, we believe that everyone deserves to graduate with pride.

Gund Kwok Lion Dance Performance - BPL Charlestown Branch
Join us for a special dragon dance performance by Gund Kwok in celebration of Women’s History Month. The performance will include an interactive story of the origins and significance of the dance!
Gund Kwok, the first Asian Women's Lion & Dragon Dance Troupe in the United States, was established in February 1998 to give Asian and Asian American women an opportunity to express their creativity, power, and strength through performing lion and dragon dances.

Senior Performance Management Intern - MBTA
The Senior Performance Management & Innovation Intern will provide analytical support across the office but primarily within the Performance and Reporting team, which produces a series of annual reports on MBTA and MassDOT to internal and external stakeholders. These reports include the MBTA Annual Service Delivery Report, MassDOT’s annual Tracker report to the Legislature, and new reports to the Legislature about the MBTA’s Fare Citation and Bus Lane Enforcement programs.
Interns can also participate in trainings, fieldwork, tours, conferences, and other learning opportunities as available. By the end of their internship, they will have gained experience managing multiple concurrent projects, collaborating with multiple departments across the MBTA and MassDOT, and working with many datasets to answer a variety of real-world questions.

Community Engagements & Outreach Intern - Emerald Cities Collaborative
The Community Engagement & Outreach Intern is a seasonal internship position based in Massachusetts. In this role, you would be part of a diverse program implementation team working on community-centered climate and clean energyprograms in Environmental Justice communities. You will report to the Community Engagement and Policy Manager and collaborate closely with program managers and community partners at ECC.
The Intern will provide hands-on programmatic and outreach support across active summer programming, including direct community engagement, in-person and online events support, and communications and storytelling.

Graduate Assistant for Programing - BU Student Wellbeing
Student Wellbeing is hiring Graduate Assistants for the 2026-2027 academic year. The Graduate Assistant for Programming will work with the team at Student Wellbeing to develop, execute and facilitate workshops, programs, and special events that promote wellbeing as a driver of student access across the Charles River, Medical and Fenway campuses. The GA will also serve as a Wellbeing Navigator who interacts with other students to serve as a peer resource for navigating wellbeing resources and learning opportunities at BU. This will afford the GA the opportunity to promote existing wellbeing resources at BU that support our student community.

2026 Summer Intern - City of Boston
The City of Boston Summer Internship Program offers a unique opportunity for motivated, service-minded individuals to:
- Gain firsthand experience in policy development, program management, community engagement, and administrative processes;
- Interact and work closely with city officials, departmental staff, and community members;
- Enhance your professional skills and explore various career paths within municipal government; and
- Make a difference in the communities where we work, live, and play.
This program will provide internship positions across various City departments for students who are interested in exploring careers in the public sector. The program will run for 10 weeks from June 1 to August 14.

News Rooted Internship - GBH
This internship offers hands-on experience in digital media production and storytelling, supporting the creation of engaging video and online content for public media platforms.
Responsibilities Include:
- Assist in researching, pitching, and developing story ideas for digital and video content
- Support the production team with scripting, fact-checking, and organizing materials for segments
- Help edit video content using tools like Adobe Premiere Pro (training provided as needed)
- Participate in team meetings, contribute to brainstorming sessions, and provide feedback on ongoing projects
- Manage and update digital assets, transcripts, and metadata to support content organization and publishing
