East Lansing Art Festival is seeking submissions for its 2023 East Lansing Art Festival held May 20 - 21, 2023. The ELAF maintains high standards of quality in fine art/fine crafts. All work must be the creation of the exhibiting artist: the original concept, design, style and execution must be attributable solely to the displaying artist(s). All work on display must be consistent with the images submitted. Artists must be 18 years of age or older. The jury fee, before and on Nov. 30, 2022, is $25.00. Beginning Dec. 1, 2022, the fee is $35.00. The jury fee is nonrefundable. Deadline is Jan. 31, 2023.

Camelback Gallery in Scottsdale, Arizona, announces a call to artists for its annual "Portraits Painting Competition." They are accepting submissions of artwork that represent people and/or persons as a portrait painting with any artistic freedom of style. Mediums to be considered include oil, acrylic, pastel, watercolor, encaustic, mixed media, scratchboard, gouache, airbrush, pen, ink, pencil, charcoal, graphite, markers, colored pencil, fiber and collage. Deadline is Oct. 23, 2022.

National Oil and Acrylic Painters in Montgomery, Texas, seeks entries for its 2022 "Fall International Online" exhibition. This exhibition is an international juried online competition open to all artists 18 years of age and older, working in oil and/or acrylic mediums. The top 200 artists will be given recognition on www.NOAPS.org, featuring the artist's name, website address and selected image. Deadline is Oct. 23, 2022.

Praxis Gallery in Minneapolis, Minnesota, seeks submissions of photographic art that demonstrate the fundamental qualities that make motion and blur a compelling element of contemporary photography. All genres, capture types, black and white and color, traditional and non-traditional photographic and digital post-production processes are welcome for submission. Deadline is Oct. 31, 2022.

Woman Made Gallery (WMG) in Chicago, Illinois seeks submissions for the "ROE 2.0- It Ain't Over Yet!" exhibition. This is a hybrid (in-person and virtual) group exhibition juried by WMG's Programming Committee. They encourage intersectional feminist approaches and lived experiences considering gender and sexuality, race, ethnicity, class, and/or disability, among other social locations. Deadline: November 26, 2022.

We are pleased to announce this upcoming artist talk with Pulitzer Prize-winner, Judy Walgren. Judy is an associate director and professor of practice at the MSU School of Journalism. She is also a photo editor, executive producer, curator and visual artist.

In this talk, Judy will explore the evolution of photojournalism and the importance of its influence on social change. She will share about her own career, discussing her experiences with collaborative portraiture and her latest work around the governor election.

In this session, Laurie will cover the must-have categories of every successful pitch, design tips to make your pitch visually appealing, and secrets to delivering your live presentation with ease. Whether you are pitching for the Arts Impact Project or any other project, you will gain tips and skills from this workshop.

Michigan Art Park is accepting nominations for its 2023 Legacy Award. The Legacy Award honors a significant individual and their work that complements the Art Park's mission to inspire awareness, appreciation and passion for Michigan’s history, culture, and the environment through the arts. it's almost howloween
Halloween is just around the corner and so is Preuss Pets annual Howloween event in Old Town Lansing. As always, the Arts Council will be taking part, happily handing out doggie treats to all the pups who drop by.

Whether or not you have a pooch, we hope you will stop down and say hello, enjoy some shopping in Old Town, grab a drink and stroll the area (thanks to Social Districts) or even grab some dinner.
