Nelson Fernandez , Oliva, Cuba, member of Juan Francisco  Naranjo  Baptist Church, who is hospitalized and recovering from a lung condition.

Nedra Hathaway , Oakland, Calif., as she has entered hospice care. Nedra is the mother-in-law of Jim Hopkins, pastor at Lakeshore Avenue Baptist Church, and living with Jim and Karen. 

Wilder Pérez fell and broke his clavicle and is recovering from an operation. He is son of Daysis Perez, a member of Juan Francisco Naranjo Baptist Church Oliva, Cuba.

Jim Pike , Chapel Hill, N.C., as he recovers from open heart surgery. Jim is retired from serving as senior minister of Binkley Baptist Church.

Bob Seymour , Chapel Hill, N.C.  is recovering after partial hip replacement surgery. Bob is the founding pastor of Binkley Memorial Baptist Church in Chapel Hill.

Karen Thomas Smith , Ifrane, Morocco, requests our prayers as she deals with medical symptoms resulting from stress and exhaustion. Karen serves as chaplain to the Christian community at Al Akhawayn University, and is a ministry partner of the Alliance.

Beatriz Tirado Ortiz , Havana, Cuba, grandmother of Waldemar Murguido  Sánchez-Quiros. She is recovering from lymphangitis in her foo t.

Alyssa Aldape , Dalton, Ga., called to The First Baptist Church of Washington, D.C., as associate pastor, Sept. 24. Alyssa previously served as associate pastor at FBC Dalton.

Baptist Theological Seminary at Richmond, which celebrated its 25th anniversary, Oct. 17 with a dinner at First Baptist Church of Richmond. 

Tom Baynham, Richmond, Va., was called as minister of music at congregational partner, Ginter Park Baptist Church, Oct. 12.

Morgan Caruthers , Denver, Colo., was named MDiv Internship Seminar Instructor at Iliff Theological Seminary for the 2016-2017 school year. Morgan serves as associate pastor at Calvary Baptist Church and on the planning team for the Alliance's Why Baptist ? Gathering in April.

Catherine "Katie" Chapman , Louisville, Ky., was called as executive director of the Association of Welcoming and Affirming Baptists last month. She is a member at Highland Baptist Church.

Mack Dennis , Asheville, N.C., was installed as pastor at congregational partner First Baptist Church, Asheville, Oct. 2.

Kyndra Frazier, Atlanta, was called as associate pastor of pastoral care and counseling at First Corinthian Baptist Church, New York City. She will begin Nov. 1. Kyndra is an Alliance-endorsed chaplain and will be one of our featured speakers at our Why Baptis t? Gathering in April.

Charlie Fuller , Little Rock, Ark., called as executive pastor to the First Baptist Church of Washington, D.C, Sept. 24. Charlie previously served at Second Baptist Church, Little Rock.

Ginter Park Baptist Church , Richmond, Va., upon their 100th anniversary of mission and ministry!  

Tom Halbrooks and Rita Vermillio n, Black Mountain, N.C. were married Sept. 24. Both served a portion of their careers at Southeastern Baptist Theological Seminary, Wake Forest, N.C. At Baptist Theological Seminary at Richmond, Tom was chosen to serve as academic dean. He retired from serving as president of Colgate Rochester Crozer Divinity School in 2006.

Stan Hastey, Alexandria, Va., was awarded the J.M. Dawson Religious Liberty Award Sept. 26, in recognition of his stalwart defense of religious liberty throughout his life from the Baptist Joint Committee. A longtime BJC staff member, Hastey was the first executive director of the Alliance of Baptists and is the author of a history of the BJC. Brent Walker presented the award to Hastey during the BJC board meeting, and Hastey addressed the board afterward. Named for the BJC's first executive director, the J.M. Dawson Religious Liberty Award is the BJC's highest honor.

Steve Hyde , Clifton, Va., upon his fifteen years of ministry as pastor at congregational partner Ravensworth Baptist Church, Annandale, Va.

Judy Mays and Martha Mullins , Raleigh, N.C., as they relocate to a planned and intentional community in the North Carolina mountains. Judy and Martha are long-time members at Pullen Memorial Baptist Church, which blessed them Sept 18. Both provided years of leadership service in the Pullen- Cuba partnership church connection.

Elizabeth Nance-Coker was ordained by Emmanuel Baptist Fellowship, Lexington, S.C., Sept. 18.

Michelle Nickens , Reston, Va., was installed as pastor at congregational partner, Washington Plaza Baptist Church, Oct. 9.

Anne Owens and Kaye Gooch were married October 1. Anne is an Alliance-endorsed chaplain at Gilchrist Services, Gilchrist Services, a non-profit organization providing care and support for individuals in Central Maryland who suffer from a chronic, advanced or terminal illness.

Jeffrey Spencer , Jamaica Plain, Mass., was called as student pastor at FBC Jamaica Plain. He is a third-year student at Andover Newton Seminary.

Amanda Tyler , Washington, D.C., was named as the next executive director of the Baptist Joint Committee for Religious Liberty, Sept. 26. She is a member at the First Baptist Church, Washington, D.C., and will begin her work in January 2017.

William Carey Baptist Church , Havana, Cuba, upon their 60th anniversary of mission and ministry as a church!

Brett Younger , New York City, was installed as senior minister of Plymouth Church,  Sept. 25.
