J.M. Dawson Religious Liberty Award Sept. 26, in recognition of his stalwart defense of religious liberty throughout his life from the Baptist Joint Committee. A longtime BJC staff member, Hastey was the first executive director of the Alliance of Baptists and is the author of a history of the BJC. Brent Walker presented the award to Hastey during the BJC board meeting, and Hastey addressed the board afterward. Named for the BJC's first executive director, the J.M. Dawson Religious Liberty Award is the BJC's highest honor.
