Dear team!

The race!

It encourages us to train harder.

It gives us the opportunity to show what we can do.

It keeps us motivated...it makes us nervous.

It allows us to shine... it makes us humble...

It always teaches us something...if we let it...

Having a perfect race is what we all want...no extra struggles... no distractions...just hard work, sweat, good pain and at the end...glory!

Unfortunately this is not always reality. The fact is that races rarely are that perfect.

Regardless of the outcome of the race, regardless of the challenges and the difficulties that we face...we can always MAKE it a good race!

It is the mind, the mental state, the way we perceive and react to things that are not planned, the way we approach a challenge, a problem or anything that is unexpected or difficult ... what is going to define the experience of the race!

Our mind can turn around the perception of the whole race like a switch.

It will not necessarily fix the problems that we are encountering...our mind cannot fix a flat tire, it cannot stop the rain, it cannot cool the temperature, it cannot stop the wind, but it can change the way we perceive these challenges and how we react to them.

The key is to stay away from negative thoughts and negative emotions.

If you cannot find any positive thoughts, then don't think!!!

Better not to think then to fill your head with negativism, especially when you are already dealing with a tough situation.

Quiet your mind and just do what you need to do right there at that precise moment.

Soon you'll start seeing things differently...you'll react better...and the race will turn into a positive experience...with better results!

Good luck to everybody racing this weekend!

HAPPY TRAINING!
Bettina
COACH'S CORNER

I'm excited to see such a big racelab team racing this weekend.
At the clinic yesterday we talked about many things to do to help make race day as perfect as possible.
Considering that you already read the athlete's guide and know all the logistics of the race; considering that you also have your equipment and know your nutrition and hydration needs; considering that you are going to pace yourself and not start too fast...(if you don't know all of this please contact me)...I will then give you only one piece of advice!

Focus on the now, instead of the outcome!
Too many athletes are stressed out about the outcome of the race, about the time, about how good they'll do. That stress is not going to make you swim straighter or sight better. It will not make your stroke nor your breathing easier. That stress will not help you eat better and remind you of drinking enough. That stress will not help you pace yourself better, but it will actually mess up your strategy, your energy, your enthusiasm and at the end your complete race.

The way you execute every step of the race, will have a direct impact on the outcome of that race.

Use the power of the mind wisely by putting all your thoughts and efforts on that one task on that one particular moment. If each step is done as best as you can do it, then the outcome will be the best you can do on that particular day.

race smart...and happy!
HOPE IN MOTION

This week we started the marathon training program Hope in Motion, from the Phoenix Children's Hospital.

This is a charity program, where people sign up to run a marathon or half marathon, in honor of a patient in the hospital. The runner will raise funds for the hospital while training for the race.

There are already 60 participants in this program and the marathon race will be PF Chang's in January.
We are very happy to be part of this great cause!

If you are interested in participating or know someone who would like to do this, please contact:

UPCOMING racelab CLINICS

Mental Readiness - Ironman & Soma
October 2nd - 6:30 PM
Destination Kona

Please do everything possible to attend this clinic!
The mind is a powerful tool that can serve us positively but also negatively if we allow it.
Most struggle mentally more than physically with the training and racing. The more you learn to deal with it, the better you'll train and race, and the more you'll enjoy the process!

If this clinic interferes with your training, please contact Bettina to adjust the schedule!

We have two racelab accounts in Facebook:

The racelab page is open to the public. It serves as an informational tool to let the public know what we are about and what we do.

The racelab group is a closed group, where only active team members are accepted. This account serves as a tool for the team members to communicate in a more controlled environment.
Please make sure you belong to both accounts so that you don't miss important information.
