Thank you to our fabulous Parent Prom Committee and amazing co-chairs, Alice Mahoney, Jessica McMichael and Kristi Grgeta, for helping to coordinate and organize all aspects of Langley's City of Stars Prom last Saturday night. Special thanks to Kristin Morgan and Brigid Tayebi who led the Decorations Committee and to Elizabeth Milone and Larisa Caicedo who led the Volunteers Committee.
We also want to thank the crew of parents who took time out of their busy schedules on Friday night and throughout the day on Saturday to decorate the space and turn the ballroom into a City of Stars--Elina Dimitropoulos, Lynne Emanuel, Mary Riley, Alyson Samburg, Karen Blackstone, Dianne Emery, Ally Higgins, Danielle Jones, Ann Malekzadeh, Katie Connolly and Margery Wedderburn. And also those parents who volunteered at the Prom—Juli and Fred Nix, Guru Nagaraja, Pushpa Jayapal, Colleen and Steve Borelli, Jon Higgins, Yon Chung, Marion Noble, Monica Arruda, Manuel Maza, Sandra Musser, Sara Daly, Patrick Doody, Ligia Zuleta, Luz Panduro, Farid Homayounmehr, Firouzeh Tahvildary, Caitlyn Kwong, Rafay Hassan, Radha G and Gerry McNeill.
All of our kids had a wonderful time and it took the hard work and dedication of these parent volunteers to make it all happen. Thank you!!

Michael Johnson, Langley High School School Counselor, is partaking in the NCICU 2025 Counselors Tour of the Eastern Campuses of North Carolina. Mr. Johnson will visit 13 colleges and universities over the span of 5 days beginning June 22.
Here are a few words Mr. Johnson had to say about this extraordinary experience:
"I did this tour last year for the central campuses and brought back LOTS of information about the 12 colleges/universities that we experienced.
One of the most valuable pieces of advice I give students during the college search process is simple: visit the campuses. No website, virtual tour, or glossy brochure can replace the experience of walking across the quad, sitting in on a class, or getting a feel for the energy of a campus firsthand.
And I don’t just say this—I live it. I make a point to get out and visit campuses myself, not just to learn more about the schools, but to build strong, working relationships with the admissions officials who help shape their incoming classes. These relationships go both ways. Just last month, the University of Utah flew me and five other counselors from the DMV to Salt Lake City to showcase all that The U has to offer—and it was fantastic.
Recently, I’ve been on the road with the NCICU counselor tours, visiting North Carolina institutions that many Langley families know well—like Duke, Wake Forest (fun fact: our Wake admissions rep used to teach at Langley!), and Elon. But equally important are the visits to schools that aren’t on most students’ radars—some they may not even recognize by name. Still, I see real potential matches for some of our students at these lesser-known campuses.
So as your student navigates the college process, I encourage you to keep an open mind—and get out there. Sometimes the best-fit school isn’t the one you’ve heard about the most. Sometimes, it’s the one you walk onto and just feel right."

Tyler Krouse enters Langley halls as one of the school’s most entertaining and kind history teachers. With a joyful and humorous personality, students never want to leave his classroom.
”With every year, I make little improvements in my teaching, and
every year I try to get a little bit better,” Mr. Krouse says. Mr. Krouse is able to connect with his students due to the positive influences
he had in his own life. “I had several teachers in high school
that really inspired me, and a few different college professors that put me on this path,” Krouse explains. When he was in college, Mr. Krouse found his subject of inspiration. One class in particular piqued his interest, setting him on his future career.
“When I was an undergrad student, I took a few history courses related to sub-Saharan
Africa, and in learning about the foreign interventions that occurred during the Cold War on the African continent,” Mr. Krouse relates. Krouse ultimately decided on teaching high school for the lasting impact on students’ futures.
“The level of student engagement is higher [in high school]. I feel like I can help students reach certain career goals by pointing them in the right direction“ says Mr. Krouse. Even for those students that don’t enjoy history, Mr. Krouse works hard to engage all students.
“I think picking suitable materials that can reach my target audience, and doing my best to make it interesting for people that might not be interested in history. That’s one of my goals.”
