A GREETING FROM THE NEW MINISTER OF CAMPS AT CAMP WARWICK
Good afternoon,
My name is Linnea, I am the new Minister of Camps at Camp Warwick. I am so excited to be here and glad to be reaching out with information for our upcoming event. On Saturday, October 15, 2022 we will be holding our second annual Trick-or-Treat the Cabins at Camp Warwick Event. Attached you will find flyers that can be used and shared. If you could please make this information available to the synods and local churches, that would be greatly appreciated. We have already sent things out on our end but know that news through the Regional Synods is also a great way for people to connect with us.
There are a few ways for people to get involved.
First, churches and congregations are invited to host a cabin. This includes coming up with a theme in accordance with the season and decorating a cabin front, side, or Collegiate Lodge entrance space. Groups are also asked to provide the candy that they will distribute to attendees. Groups are invited to arrive as early as 9:30 am to start setting up, we will gather before the event at 11:30 am for a prayer and blessing of the event, and then kick it off at 12 pm. We only have 30 spots available so churches are encouraged to register as soon as possible through this link or at our event page, https://campwarwick.org/trick-or-treat-the-cabins-at-camp-warwick/.
Second, if there are people who are interested in helping but not hosting a cabin, they can register through this link or on the event page. We are asking volunteers to arrive at 10:30 am to help set up, assist hosts if needed, and stay to help out with games and activities.
Lastly, invite your congregations and communities to this event! We ask that people register prior to the event so that we can ensure that we have enough for all who attend. People can register through this link or on the event page.
If you have any questions please feel free to reach out to me.
Grace and peace,
Linnea Berry (she/her)

VOLUNTEERS OPPORTUNITY NEAR RUTGERS
Two Fishes ><> <>< Student Brunch Program
The College Avenue Community Church will begin a free brunch program for Rutgers students on Monday, October 3 and will serve brunch Monday through Friday through the academic year 2022-23.
We will serve meals from 11 am through 2pm each day. We need volunteers to help with the serving of food during those hours. We also need volunteers to help prepare food one hour before and clean up one hour after the serving hours. Volunteers are welcome to dine and drink as much coffee as they wish, free of charge, of course.
We welcome anyone of high school age and older. No heavy lifting is involved. Cleanliness and courtesy are the main prerequisites to being an effective volunteer. Each volunteer will receive a written job description to follow, so you are not working in a void. You will be provided all sanitary PPE equipment upon arrival.
With one in three RU students being food-needy, we anticipate serving some 200-300 students daily. Any one of them may be Jesus dropping in for the day!
Blessings,
College Avenue Community Church Consistory, Board of Deacons

INSIGHTS FOR CONGREGATIONAL LEADERS:
PLANNING FOR SUCCESSFUL ADOPTION OF INNOVATIONS
I've been challenged this year to reach beyond our normal materials and find helpful insights from non-traditional sources. Here's a third installation in this series.
I'm teaching a Fall semester class at Montclair State called Mediated Organizations. Through the weeks, we study how organizations use computer platforms to support their work. Along the way we also study why people do or do not adopt new technologies that are offered. This is a major problem in some organizations, and it can be very costly when a new system is not well adopted by the members. One of the articles we read is titled Reflections: Sociotechnical Systems Design and Organization Change. . It is an interesting read not just about organizational technology adoption but for church leaders who are thinking about how to work with members to adopt any kind of change. Learning to think holistically about people and their psychology/history/relationships, along with the technologies we ask for, the tasks we undertake and the structures we work in, can provide a rich place for reflection and planning for the most successful change possible. The diagram below captures a small part of the article, and reminds us that people come with different past experiences, personalities, senses of efficacy and personal confidence, fears, anxieties...all of which can be considered and addressed in any change effort.
