A Walk In Their Shoes

Relink.org was thankful to be able to come along side and support A Walk In Their Shoes which was held on February 24 at Compass North Church.

There were over 350 people in attendance and dozens of resource tables where people could get information from providers who help with substance use disorder. In the main gathering, there were 4 speakers who spoke about overcoming addiction and also shared a parent's perspective about losing a child to an overdose and to suicide.

There was worship music and a time of celebration for those who are now in recovery and thriving. We love to be a part of these local events helping others overcome barriers and struggles.

Front Steps Housing and Services

Each month, we highlight relink.org connections to improve outreach and educate our communities. If you would like to collaborate with our team, please reach out to our Community Engagement Director Rachel Sobitz at [email protected].

Front Steps Housing and Services features a permanent supportive housing facility for individuals referred from homeless shelters through the Cuyahoga County Central Intake process. The housing facility features 60 one-bedroom units. Front Steps housing program adheres to the Housing First philosophy, which believes that the primary need of homeless individuals is to obtain stable housing. With the stress of securing housing alleviated, residents are able to focus on bettering themselves mentally, physically and emotionally to obtain their highest level of self-sufficiency.

Within the same facility, Front Steps offers a variety of social services. Their team offers mental health case management for the residents as well as for members of the community. They offer art and music therapy to meet the creative needs of their residents as well.

Additionally, they have specialized services for clients that suffer from substance use disorder, such as peer support services, individual SUD counseling and a unique IOP Program called New Life Intensive Outpatient Program. New Life IOP offers the clients up to $300 in Financial Assistance to apply to expenses such as rent, restitution, legal fees, transportation (bus passes), groceries, clothes, and other necessary items. This is called their "Treasure for Treatment" and its run by experienced and knowledgeable counselor Karrell McDaniel, LICDC-CS.

Walk-ins are welcome but they strongly encourage calling in advance to schedule an assessment to meet program eligibility. Call (216) 781-2250 ext. #1008.

Kelly Green of Front Steps Housing is a Peer Recovery Supporter who helps individuals get back on her feet. Our team recently connected with Kelly and learned that she refers clients to services listed on relink.org. Click here to learn more about Kelly's experience with relink.org.
