Exciting news! relink.org is hosting another informational webinar. On Thursday October 28th, join us at 2 PM via zoom to hear from two speakers who have dedicated years to the Human Trafficking crisis.

Our speakers that have so kindly put in the work to help make this webinar possible are Christi Scott Bartman, Founder of Eyes Up Appalachia and Seth Boughton, Director of Data and Innovative Techniques, Ohio Network of Child Advocacy Centers.

Learn how we might overlay vulnerability mapping, resource mapping and actual data to better address the human trafficking problem in Ohio. We look forward to sharing the work of these individuals and their organizations, and provide Ohioans with the necessary information to help take action against Human Trafficking in our state and beyond.

With only one more month of outreach ahead of us, before we explore other options of connection for the winter months, we are thrilled with the experience we had in the community this year. The impact we made, the relationships we created, and the events we attended made a lasting impression on us as a team and we are eager to continue our efforts through other means this winter.

Empower: Awareness

October 23th is National Prescription Drug Take Back Day

October 23rd is #TakeBackDay and Rali Ohio is partnering with organizations across Ohio to encourage the safe disposal of old or unused medicines. Make safe disposal part of your fall-cleaning routine and help fight substance misuse at the same time. Share this information and spread the word.

According to the National Institute on Drug Abuse, Prescription drug misuse is a major public health crisis -- "18 million people (more than 6 percent of those aged 12 and older) have misused such medications at least once in the past year," (drugabuse.gov). To combat prescription drug misuse, Rali Ohio developed this campaign to remind you to dispose of them properly.

If your or anyone you know are in need of prescription drug disposal bags, contact our Statewide Coordinator, Sarah Capri, at [email protected] to have them sent to you.

relink.org Involved in Local Student's Report

Sharing data findings and the various things we learn from our partners is one of the greatest blessings of being involved in relink.org. That being said, we are always thrilled when students interested in this field reach out to us with questions! Recently, we had a student from The Greater Cincinnati Microenterprise Initiative (GCMI) who is taking entrepreneurial classes reach out to relink.org regarding our Trauma Informed Care Practices (TIC).

The topic of TIC has not been something that we have discussed with others at length before and it was a great opportunity to not only share how we handle more sensitive and potentially triggering topics, but allowed us to reflect and attempt to do even better with TIC going forward.

Human Trafficking in Ohio

Screenshot 2021-10-11 093544.png

Human trafficking is a major issue in the United States. The U.S. is ranked as one of the worst countries globally for human trafficking, with an estimated 199,000 incidents every year (World Population Review). Ohio ranks in the top 5 states with the highest rates of human trafficking.

Ohio law enforcement set up the largest human trafficking sting in Ohio history last week. 161 people were arrested in a statewide sting operation named Operation Ohio Knows. The goal of the sting was to create a deterrent for those who seek sex for pay or profit.

Eyes Up Appalachia is an anti-human trafficking organization that represents 32 counties in Ohio. The organization’s goal is to inform the community about human trafficking while bringing attention to it to Ohio legislators. Relink.org works with Eyes Up Appalachia to provide resources with contact information for human trafficking services.
