On a scale of 1 to 5, how would you rate your adventurous spirit?
Do you enjoy discovering and taking adventures, little and large? Trying new things (even while sometimes feeling afraid or leery)? Or do you sit back more, with consistent routine days, day-in-day-out, sticking to comfort because you might feel cautious or afraid of NEW?
While visiting my baby girl in Arizona this week (where I saw this T-shirt) I went on a ski biking adventure. (Who even knew ski bikes existed?) Since my daughter and two of her friends wanted to snowboard on a nearby mountain - and I did not - I discovered an alternate activity so we could still spend the day together. The choice was choose something to do on the mountain or sit in my airbnb alone all day.
Although strapping a board to my big feet wasn't appealing (at all), handlebars are very familiar in my hands and bicycle seats commonplace under my butt. So I tried ski biking. Loved it! And can't wait to do it again. FUN CITY.
Have you tried something new this week, this month, this year? Said YES to adventure?
Finding and taking adventures does not necessarily mean a physical activity, such as careening down a snow-covered hill, jumping out of an airplane, or cliff diving. It is quite possible to tackle tiny adventures as we move along our paths. Adventure materializes in all sizes, shapes and opportunities.
If it is NEW for you ... consider it an adventure.
Being adventurous could mean easy things, such as tasting a new ethnic food ... reading a different book genre ... trying on retail clothes not typically your style ... going someplace alone ... wearing a hat (I promise you'll receive compliments).
Weightier adventures might be changing careers ... relocating to another state ... driving cross-country ... vacationing in a totally different spot than your normal pick.
One of my daily adventures is talking to strangers; this I learned from my Papa Louie. He chatted with everyone! I watched him. He got a kick out of people, as do I. Humanity can be a ton of fun. People are cool and can be friendly, comical and playful. Try them!
Ahhhh, adventure. How else can we advance, grow, thrive, master?
Invite in something new. Adventure awaits.
I found a few quotes connected to this thought process:
if you change nothing,
nothing will change
if you always do what you have always done,
you will always be where you are right now
insanity is doing the same thing over and over
and expecting a different result
As you're considering the 1-5 adventure scale mentioned at the beginning of this snippet, are you willing to up it an adventurous notch?
Say YES to adventure. It might be fun!
