The start of each school year brings with it the wonderful opportunity to reconnect with old friends and make new ones. Last week, I had the pleasure of connecting for the first time with new members of the Langley community at the New Family Forum/Q&A hosted by the PTSA New Family Committee. Principal Greer and Director of Student Services Braden Peterson did a wonderful job answering questions regarding all things Langley.
Whether you are returning to Langley or are new to our community, I encourage you to take advantage of the many opportunities that the PTSA, Guilds, Boosters, and other school organizations provide to connect with your family’s Langley community. There are many ways to get involved, such as helping with class forums, managing concessions, or chaperoning a school dance (Homecoming is Sept 10!).
If you have not yet joined the PTSA, please consider doing so here. The PTSA's mission is to make every student's potential a reality by engaging and empowering families and communities to advocate for all students. The PTSA is for all Langley parents, teachers, and students.
Another way to support our mission is to increase the funding available to Langley students and staff through Affiliated Fundraising. Learn more on the Support Us page on the PTSA website. Click here to link your Harris Teeter card (this needs to be done each school year) and here to set Langley HS PTSA as your charity for your AmazonSmile account. All donations support teacher development, guest speakers, service learning, performing and fine arts and more. Thank you for your support!

Help landscape the last of Langley's three courtyards and donate a leaf for Langley's Legacy Tree!
By donating a leaf (copper $50, silver $100, gold $200) or bird or acorn ($500), you're helping to complete the courtyard renovation and "grow" the Legacy Tree – a beautiful wall sculpture across from the Main Office in Langley's Lobby. You choose the engraved message! The Legacy Tree is a permanent, prominent record of courtyard contributors and a lasting legacy for Langley and your family. Leaves also make great tributes to teachers, friends, pets, coaches, and grads!
Thanks to the 600 generous Langley families and local organizations who've already donated a leaf, bird, or acorn.

Saxons Go Green is a student-led organization at Langley High School which promotes environmental activism among the student body through activities such as raising awareness, hosting cleanups and promulgating sustainable habits. Two weeks ago, its club's officers hosted a reusable bag handout at Great Falls Village to help reduce plastic pollution.
The club obtained the reusable bags through our partnership with Clean Fairfax, a local non-profit. Last winter, Saxons Go Green hosted a bake sale and raised over $450. Clean Fairfax then matched the donation and created 500+ specially designed reusable grocery bags. Saxons Go Green continues to make an impact in the Langley community and is even looking to make change on a county wide level.

Lauren Lipton is one of Langley’s new counselors on the expanded counseling team and is excited to join the Saxons for the 2022-2023 school year! Mrs. Lipton hails from South Florida and received a Bachelor of Arts in English from the University of North Florida and a Master of Education in School Counseling from Florida Atlantic University. She always wanted to be in a school, working with young people, and her interest in school counseling developed during her undergrad years when she became close with her advisor.
Mrs. Lipton moved to Northern Virginia seeking a new environment, a change of scenery and faster pace of life. This is Mrs. Lipton’s 12th year as a school counselor in FCPS and her first year at Langley. She was previously an elementary school counselor for 11 years at Louise Archer ES, which she describes as a wonderful place to work. While she’s only been at Langley a few weeks, Mrs. Lipton loves meeting with students and getting to know their unique stories. Working on a team of eight counselors is a new experience for her, but she enjoys the collaborative environment.
Expanding the counseling staff to eight this year allows counselors more time to work with each student, although it necessarily shifted some of the alpha groups. Mrs. Lipton supports students with last names Leg-Myu. Her counseling philosophy is based on creating meaningful connections with students and staff so they feel a deep sense of belonging at school. She looks forward to supporting students through their high school experience and planning for life after high school.
Outside of school, Mrs. Lipton enjoys Crossfit and yoga, and she has a photography business as a hobby. She describes herself as a beach bum at heart and her favorite place in Virginia is Smith Mountain Lake. Stop by Student Services and say hello!
