SkyEcho 2 Shipping Update
Thank You
Let me first start to say to everyone, thank you for your patience. You are all waiting for this new fantastic product to be shipped to you. We've been slow to deliver.

Over the past few months, we have received requests from you on our ship dates, on the final feature set, and on which EFB applications will be supporting the full functionality. You may also have seen a recent announcement that we now have a closer working relationship with FLARM(R).

We've been delayed because we're integrating the final feature set, beta testing, and refining the performance of the product. We want you to be happy with it when you receive it. We're now ready to ship, so here's what's in store for you:

  • Amazing 1090MHz ADS-B receive performance. See below for a couple of screenshots from our integration partners SkyDemon and EasyVFR.
  • Native FLARM receive functionality. Please see below.
  • UAT weather and traffic via the uAvionix/skyDemon trial for UAT in the UK.
  • Compatibility with soon-to-be-released Flarmbridge.
  • SIL 1 GPS - What's this? See below for more information. It's important.

We are now shipping! Thank you for your patience and we apologize for the delay.

Native FLARM Reception

We heard you. You wanted a device that allowed you to receive and visualize FLARM targets without purchasing additional hardware. You now have that option.

SkyEcho 2 has two sets of radios/antennas internally.
  • The primary radio is for 1090MHz ADS-B transmission and reception.
  • You have an option of what to do with the second:
  • UAT Weather and Traffic Reception, or
  • FLARM reception

In the case of FLARM reception, the encrypted FLARM data is transferred to the EFB application for decoding and display. Since this is not native GDL90, each EFB manufacturer must adopt the new protocol and FLARM licensing scheme for this feature to work. We are currently working with a number of EFB applications for this integration.

Once FLARM / EFB integration is complete, a firmware update will be provided at no cost.
Introducing FLARMbridge

FLARMbridge is the first in a series of expandable options for SkyEcho 2. With FLARMbridge you can easily and wirelessly connect your existing FLARM product installation in your aircraft to SkyEcho 2. SkyEcho 2 will translate the FLARM data onto your EFB along with the ADS-B traffic. No additional FLARM license required.

FLARMbridge will be available in January.
SIL 1 GPS
In April, the CAA updated CAP1391 to allow for GNSS position sources that perform to FAA or EASA (E)TSO-C199. This (E)TSO produces important "integrity" (GPS term) metrics, as well as a summary Source Integrity Level (SIL) value of 1.

Why is this important? The whole point is to SEE AND BE SEEN, right? Guess what - with a SIL value of 0 - certified avionics including TAS, TCAS, and ADS-B receivers - as well as ATC systems - will flat out ignore you. You won't be seen - even though you think you are doing the right thing.

Don't just take our word for it - see a similar discussion posted by Trig Avionics.
SIL 1 GPS Update to the Original SkyEcho

Good News! The Original SkyEcho was also equipped with a TSO-C199 GPS. However, CAP1391 at the time of launch did not allow for the transmission of SIL 1.

We will be posting a CAA approved firmware update on our site for SkyEcho 1 users who also want to have this important EC capability. This will enable your SkyEcho to transmit with a SIL 1 position quality indicator.
