key notes from the president

PTSA General Membership meeting TOMORROW in the Lecture Hall!

Come join us Fri, Feb 20 for our Principal's Coffee at 9 am followed by our meeting at 9:30 am. Wondering how best to help your student earn community service hours? Not sure where to find opportunities? Come hear Karen Burke, Langley’s college and career 'guru' address these questions and any others you may have. If you have anything to ask in advance, please email questions to ptsalangley@gmail.com. We hope to see you there!

The Langley Art Show is on Thurs, Mar 5 at 6 pm. Submissions will engage the theme Wings and Roots. Deadline for submissions is Mon, Mar 2.

As sophomore parent, I hope to see many of you at the Class of 2028 Dinner and College Case Study night on Wed, Feb 25. The dinner ticket and registration links are under the class banner below.

kudos

The Langley Gold Mock Trial team had an outstanding showing at the Northern Virginia Regional Tournament on Saturday, competing in three rigorous rounds and qualifying for the state competition in Richmond (Mar 6–8).

Langley was also awarded the Civility Award—chosen by peer teams among 40 area high schools—recognizing respect, integrity, and sportsmanship. This honor reflects not only the team’s legal skill, but also their character and professionalism.

A huge thank you to Christine McCommas for sponsoring three teams, Margaret Brown and Cory DiBacco for judging, and the PTSA Academic Boosters for their generous support. We’re so proud of this team!

Students left to right starting in the back row: Tyler Engola, Jordan Glover, Arnav Khetarpal, Taiki Bongiovi, Liam Smith

Front row: Katya Volodin, Cat Flaherty, Tanishka Bagade, Hannah Park, and Katie Myshrall

ethics day

Ethics Day is on Mar 12! Volunteers needed!

What is Ethics Day? Ethics Day is an off-campus experience for seniors featuring interactive ethical dilemmas—where there’s no single “right” answer. It helps students build lifelong decision-making skills and is a fun way for parents to see how our seniors think.

This annual event wouldn’t be possible without parent and community volunteers. Sign up here to help!

winter staff luncheon

The LHS PTSA Hospitality Committee is seeking volunteers for the upcoming Winter Staff Luncheon "Italian Countryside" on Fri, Feb 27

"The Langley Bakers" is a long standing tradition where we invite families to donate the desserts for our event. Sign up to be a baker! We thank you in advance for your contribution!

school board student rep

Each year, FCPS students can apply for the position of the student representative to the School Board. The student rep is not a member of the School Board but serves in a nonvoting, advisory capacity, representing the interests of FCPS students.

Students currently in grades 9-11 are eligible to apply. Applicants do not need to be current members of the Superintendent’s Student Advisory Council. Applications are due by Mon, Feb 23. To be considered for the election, students are required to provide the following:

  • A written component is due Mon, Feb 23.
  • A 30-second candidate video statement is due Mon, Mar 16. Candidates will be emailed a link to record their video on Mon, Mar 2.

Both application components are required to be considered for the election. Read more about the election process here.

Sophomore College Case Studies Night - 7 pm

The Class of 2028 is invited to come learn from the experts! This program will allow you to work alongside a college admission representative as part of a mock admissions team. Review applications and discuss applicants’ strengths and weaknesses. Gain a better understanding of the college admission process to plan for the rest of your high school experience.

Parents/guardians and students are invited to attend, one registration per family. The form will close on Mon, Feb 23.
